GDB 18: Motor City Madness

It’s not quite River City Ransom, and it hardly has the cache of Edward Furlong’s Academy-Award-not-even-remotely-being-nominated-for performance in Detroit Rock City, but some terrifying and eye-catching hybrid of the two is taking place tonight. On skates. And ice.

And you can bet your ass the Justice League™ will be paying close attention, watching for facial ticks and heated exchanges of words as MacT continues to grey at an alarming rate, and Dustin Penner sits comfortably in the press box. Meanwhile, the entire ‘Sphere speculates on both of those guys’ futures with the club (check Lowetide, Covered in Oil and BDHS for some good comments on those issues).

All this off-and-on-ice furor is the result of MacT’s positively scathing indictment of Penner’s performance and attitude in the Edmonton Journal. I’m not going to add to the crap storm here. I’m just going to cross my fingers, consume a 15-pack of Vitamin-P and hope for a checkmark in the W column.

Go Oil!

Roli's going to punch someone by the end of the night. I'm guessing Holmstrom is a likely candidate.

The only thing missing in Roli's game is his helmet "falling" off every whistle

Roli is still getting over having Smyth on his doorstep, now Holmstrom is there. I'm betting he pulls a Bouerice on Holmstrom before the end of the night

Boulerice is sitting beside Penner tonight.

Nice to see all those unemployed GM & Chrysler workers still enjoy going to a game in "hockeytown"

My bad. Roli loves to over react. He's old and disgruntled.

I'm also surprised they were able to stop stabbing each other for a few hours. Although we can't see the nose bleed seats, so, you never know.

Time to switch over the NFL Monday night game. This is just plain sad. I tappears that the Oilers who are dressed are jealous of Penner and his hotdog eating.

Maybe we should start cheering for the Oilers to play mediocre hockey and get beaten every other game. At least then we'd be getting the results we want.

Evening all. I would like the OIlers to score a goal.....many infact. Hussle hard nosed goals.

I would like them to play up to their potential.

I would like to feel like I can honestly cheer for the team and there heart/effort everynight.....

I would also like a 15 pack of Vitamin P to make this game look better....

Sending Penner to the press box sure sent a message to this team. They're playing great. Edmonton is in red right?

Is this the writing on the wall for MacT?

Nothing against what the guy has done, but genius falling on deaf ears is useless.

It's too bad they have stopped listening.

MacT is fuct - if he wants to send a message sit someone who is actually playing good IMO, although it would be tough to find one of those guys

Where's Brownlee? I want to apologize for my criticizing Craig MacTavish so ruthlessly today. He was right. MacT calling out Penner has effectively motivated this team. Once again I have to eat my words. Robin, I'm sorry for the disagreement, you were right as always, the silver fox is a great coach. The powerplay he's drawn up tonight has looked top shelf. If you're out there, may my words ride the wind and find you. I hope we can get past this and continue the work on our band.

I think he's been hanging on by a hair for a while now. His track record isn't terrible, but there have been lots of coaches that have had much more success that have been fired for far less. Unless the team goes on a 10 game win streak or something, it's only a matter of time before he's given the ol heave ho.

He should just count his blessings that his BFF has been running the team for so long, because if he was coaching else where, I don't think he would have held onto his job this long.
