CONTEST: Tradestravaganza - Win an Oilers jersey!

tradevote.jpg

You can now vote in the polls!

It's trade deadline time, lambs. And there's nothing better than talking smack about who should be traded, who should come here and why, “Jarret Stoll plus Smid PLUS a second-round draft pick should be enough to pry Ovechkin out of Washington...” Right?

But it ain’t that easy—no way.

Here's the deal: we have in our hot little hands a brand spankin' new Oilers jersey—road white, size Large. And we're going to give it to someone—but not just anyone. This someone must propose the deal that makes the most sense to the Nation.

So add a comment to this article and propose a trade—be sure to leave your REAL email address. Explain why you think the deal is valid for both teams. Talk trash about the other trades, show some love when you think they're good ones.

We will be selecting the six best trades, and everyone will be voting on them the day before the deadline and on deadline day. The winner gets an Oilers jersey. It’s that simple.

Note: Given the traffic that the Nation gets from all over the world (we have been getting mad love from Japan, the US, some Europe and in Tunisia of all places - 4 visits in the past month!) we've huddled together and decided that, YES, if you win the trade deadline contest we will ship this bad boy anywhere in the world. And this contest ain’t sponsored either (thanks Corporate Edmonton); it’s out of our bottle money that we're paying for this.

We thank no sponsors, think it's reasonable to assume that everyone could be traded and want to get started!

Let’s make a deal!

I like this idea. OK here goes

To TB: - Jarret Stoll $2.2 M RFA in 2009 10G 17 A 27 Pts - 2nd round draft pick in 2009

To Edm: - Vaclav Prospal $1.9 M RFA 08/09 C 26 G, 28 A 54 Pts.

Prospal is unhappy in TB and has called out the Coach. He is a first line centre, and is a Czech which would make Hemsky happy. TB can't afford to sign him to the deal that he will want, and are getting an able replacement in Stoll who will command less money.

How about this one

To ATL: Ladislav Smid D Jarret Stoll C Rob Scremp F

To Edm: Marian Hossa F

Hossa wants out of Atlanta, and if you offered up two solid roster players and a good prospect who is wasting away here like Schremp you could land one of the top 20 players in the league.

Vaclav Prospal is a terrible acquistion, the only reason he is having a good season is cause he's playing with the T BAY TRIPLETS. He would be a liability on our roster plus he has an ego trying to call out coach John Fonzarelli. Now here is real trade:

Are you ready?

Oilers Trade

G Dwayne (I get pissed at Joey's on game night) Roloson

F Raffi (I love hitting the rails) Torres

D Tom ( I miss Fargo ND) Gilbert - who for some reason is thinking he can get 4 million next season

To Atlanta for

F Marian (I hit bitches like switches) Hossa

D Steve (Former Canadian World Juniors Captain) McCarthy

Bam

Oilers would be 17% as a result of this trade

That Propspal trade is garbage. Why would you want another soft player like Dvorak or Sykora?

Anyways, here is a GOOD trade

To Edmonton: Rick Nash F

To Columbus: Joni Pitkannen D Jarret Stoll C Dwayne Roloson G

If there is ever going to be a team to get Nash out of Columbus it could be the kevin lowe scott hewson connection. Nash has been there for five years and they have yet to make the playoffs and won't be this year either. They have been unable to bring him in any support, it might be time with a new GM and a new coach to make some big changes.

You send over a franchise defenceman in Pitkannen, a future captain in Stoll and Roloson to teach Leclaire how not to get injured and I think you can get Nash out of there. He must be frustrated never having made the playoffs - like Luongo was in Florida. You get nash with hemsky and you got yourselves some shake and bake baby!

To New York:

Torres L 2.40 (08/09 salary) Reasoner C 0.95 (08/09 salary) Stoll C RFA

To Edmonton:

Colton Orr R 0.550 mill (08/09 salary) Hossa L RFA Al Montoya G RFA

May seem out there but let me explain: We free up space from Torres contract. Marty is a good utility player but we're blessed at centre. Stoll is a great player, I like him, but you need to trade quality to get quality. Not sure if his concussion issue comes up in the future, say if he gets another nasty hit ... We get a bona fide scrapper/enforcer in Orr to protect Hemsky/Gags/etc, Get a good LW in Hossa (not as deep in LW as RW right now), and a backup to Garon.

**Roli would be dealt in another deal ** We persue Marian Hossa as a UFA if he's still available.

No Brainer...

Joni. Pitkanen Rob. Nilson D. Rolo

for

Brad Stuart Dustin Brown 1st or 2nd Rounder

LA has had serious goaltending issues, and hopes roli can have another good couple years while their young guys develop behind a vet. They need Pitkanen because blake is leaving soon (retiring or whatnot), visnovky is good (30pts) but is -20, jack johnson will need someone who can skate to sidekick him as he develops. Nilson gives them a right winger (they have no right wingers with more than 9 points) who has serious potential. Edmonton gets a damn good lefts winger who can score, something the oilers need beyond penner. http://rumormethis.com/tag/dustin-brown/

Of course crawford says hes not willing to trade brown, thats what all coaches say before the players get traded

Edmonton also gets Stuart, who can give a bit more veteran stability to the young blue liners

17% hairier? 17% worse? 17% more cleaning power?

I like the kMil trade 0 brad steward is no joke. Ironic that LA has serious goaltending issues, and yet traded us Garon thus ending our goaltending issues

Think that Hossa isn't on the trading block by the way? Check these quotes as reported by TSN

"I've told everybody who has asked me along the way, my first priority is to sign Marian Hossa. If we ever get to that point where we're not going to sign him, trust me, the world will know." - Thrashers coach/GM Don Waddell

OOO! Make the deal K-LOWE!

"They could lose me for nothing. Obviously they're aware of that." - Thrashers LW Marian Hossa

To Edmonton:

Drew Stafford + 3rd round pick

To Buffalo:

Jarret Stoll

Edmonton gets a big scoring winger with loads of potential, who is also a local boy and has ties to the team (Barry stafford) so would most likely enjoy playing here. Buffalo gets a solid 2 way center that can help them in their defensive zone and on the PP.

TO LA: Joni Pitkanen

TO EDM: Alexander Frolov

The Oilers finally get a legit high end player to play with Hemsky. He's also at a very respectable cap hit of only 2.9M The Oilers dip into the free agent market in the summer, replacing Pitkanen with Dan Boyle.

Thinking about Hemsky making those tap-in passes to Frolov makes the hair under my armpits stand right up.

I would like to inprove our offense without killing our defence, so my trade offer is...

To EDM: M. St Louis (5.0M)

To TBL: D. Roloson (3.0M) R. Nillson (.942M) S. Staios (2.9M) 2nd Round Draft Pick

St. Louis would be an amazing addition with Hemmer as he would be that set up man that we would be looking for

That way, TBL gets a goalie they have been so desperately needing in Roli, some young cheap help up front with Nillson, and a higher end (although dimbwhitted) backender in Staios

Why are most these trades including Hossa? A) Hes a free agent at the end of the year do we really think he is the missing piece of the puzzle that will make up the ground get us into the playoffs and win us a cup ****THIS**** year? B) You don't think Hossa knows where we are in the standings? He will be dealt to a contender and sign for the highest money offered in the offseason.

To Edmonton: Brad Richards

To TB: Roli 2nd round pick

TB knows they need a goalie and Mr Playoff MVP needs out of the bay. Yeah his salary is a little scary but he could really bring that great canadian leadership and clutch goal ability back to Edmonton... Plus TB could clear up the cap room they have been complaining about for awhile now.

Plus he really knows how to beat the flames and isn't that what we want?

If any trade happens involving M. Hossa and the Oil it would have to be a sign and trade deal for Edmonton to give up so much. I can't see Klowe giving up any combination of Stoll, Pitkanen, Gilbert, Schremp, Nillson, for an UFA without having him agree on a new contract first. Klowe has said he won't give up prospects or good players for a rental player.

Something more logical would be;

To Tampa

Roli - Tampa needs goaltending, we need cap space and contract space Staios - replace Boyle(not the offence but the veteran presence) Schremp - Not going to get the chance he needs under MacT

to Edm.

Boyle - big upgrade from Staios 2nd round pick '07

The only way we can see Steve Staios traded is if Kevin Lowe suffers a concussion equal to that of Stoll. Staios and Moreau represent the remaining 52% of the heart of this team that was left when Smyth was traded.

I don't think the Frolovs and the Boyles of the world are what the Oil need. They need someone with big time skill AND big time leadership. The skilled players in the dressing room do not have the leadership skills necessary to take control of this team (Horcoff, Hemsky, Penner)

The leaders in the dressing room lack the skill necessary to go out and lead the team by example through production (Staios, Moreau, Stoll)

We need someone like a Lecavalier or a Iginla who can lead, score, fight and dance the rhumba. The supporting cast is here, but there is no star. To get a star will mean parting with some names, but it needs to be done.

Moving Roli has to be one of K-Lowes priorities to free up dough....

Edmonton trades the iron on the free market to raise money for a new building and augments it's away game by occupying the hosting city with tanks. Potatoes are just symbolic in this case.
