GDB XI: Clash on the coast

I'm not one to dwell on the past. That would mean the revisiting of so many addictions that I'd most likely relapse. Like, into my World of Warcraft addiction. And no one here wants that. Who would update OilersNation?
So rather than dwell on the Oilers' third straight loss against the Calgary Flames in the latest Battle of Alberta tilt, I'm going to focus on the eleventh game of the 2009/10 season against the hated-as-much-as-the-Flames-if-not-more Vancouver Canucks.
Tonight is the second regular season meeting between these two hockey clubs. The Canucks are coming off a win last night against the Maple Leafs, an altogether meaningless endeavour since the Leafs have managed to tally a grand total of one point this season so far and precisely zero wins (it's hard, but I'm resisting making 75,000 Brian Burke jokes right now). This false sense of hope brings the Canucks to and even .500 so far this season.
Well la-de-freakin'-da.
While the Oilers didn't fare well against the Flames last night, we can really chalk this up to two things:
- H1N1 or some variant thereof: We were down a whole line last night! The Canadian government stated last week they'd start doling out vaccinations. For the love of Hemsky, please make the Oilers one of the number one priorities for shots. Old people can wait.
- Crappiness: I can't say I watched the whole game last night, but many in the Nation did. And many of you concluded the same thing: it just wasn't a great effort last night.
But I tend to take on the same attitude as Oilers' Jambalaya writer Smokin' Ray Burnt. He had this to say earlier today:
"With a crappy game like last night against the fLames. Expect the flu ridden Oilers to have a chip on their shoulders tonight against the Vancouver Canucks."
The Oil have had a great start to the season. My hope for tonight is that they're mad as hell and aren't going to take any BS from the Canucks. The Canucks, meanwhile, are looking for that tipping-point game to take them over .500.
Tonight's game will not help them.
Oilers 4 Canucks 2 tonight. Look for more points from PDP. But you already knew that.
Oh, and don't forget to check out what the competition is saying.
Luongo looks like Greg Louganis out there with the amount of diving he does whenever someone comes near him. Maybe he should stick to soccer. He's got the hair for it.
@jeanshorts
I bet he has a few other thngs in common with Greg Louganis... *cough cough*
Ba-dum-bum, Tss!!
Is there any fans at this game? It sounds like a funeral in there.
Soooooooooo, does anyone know how I can blame our PP woes on MacT still?
What the hell man. Any time the Oilers ever make a good defensive play like that we get called for hooking or holding or something retarded. WHEN WILL A CRAPPY CALL COME OUR WAY!!!
Delorean looks pretty good. Wing-door good.
@Archaeologuy
to be fair, we are still ranked 10th on the PP, altho after this weekend it may end up being 31st again. at least it sure feels that way
PHEW. We're getting out shot again by a margin that's getting wider by the minute. Everything is right in the universe again.
I realy thought that Irish O'Irishson was gonna solve Luonganis there.
yeah, it has been a particularly bad weekend. AND GETTING LONGER
Really??
BAH! I HATE THE CANUCKS SO GOD DAMN MUCH!
Once again redirected pucks are absolutely killing us.
What did i just type?
How is that interference when the guy dumps the puck in?????
Someone's getting their spine punched.
someone should tell TP that hand-eye coordination is a bit better in the Show, and he should try to work on actually checking an opposing player
THAT was a penalty but when Smid was hacked down and then hooked earlier in the period it was ok?? I'm a tad confused.
that was the worst #%^$@$! turnover I have ever seen
This is starting to shape up as a game where a goat earns his stripes. The only question is who it's going to be.
Its starting to look a little more like 2008 every game.
*sigh*
What is Horc@p -2 this game? What do the Oil have on IR in cap money?
So far Gilbert and Grebeshkov are quickly moving up my list. And Horcoff hasn't done himself any favors either.
why is peckham out there instead of Penner? oh dear...
@jeanshorts
...and Moreau hasn't been taking any bad penalties. Unfortunately, he's not doing anything else.
Please Quinn, do not resort to MacT-esque line combos just because things are getting a little tough out there.
Stop lossing!!! Start winning!!! Score more goals then them!!! How hard is that to understand?!?
*flabbergasted I'm not coaching this team*
@Librarian Mike
The sad thing is that Moreau looking invisible out there is far better than having to watch him skate to the box all game.
@jeanshorts
It's called 'leading by example'. haha.
Horcoff looks so afraid of the puck
Seriously. What the hell is with this team and their inability to get pucks out of their own zone? I think it's time for Quinn to change his stance on not playing tight to the point.
Souray-5.4 Staios-2.7 Pisani-2.5 Pouliot-.825 Stone-.6 Comrie(sick)-1.25 Roughly 13 million samolians
@Archaeologuy
he's gone into figure skating mode - lots and lots of big sweeping turns and pretty much avoid running into anything
@Jeremy
What are 13 Somalians worth?
Please, please, PLEASE score on this PP. A goal this period would be huge boost going into the third.
Horcoff and Stortini on the PP AGAIN!!!!!!!!!
@Bombstradamus
Metric Or Imperial?
Ok Oilers, I don't want to beg or anything but Monday morning is fast approaching and would love to for it to suck a little less so....win this fekkin game...yay pp, score!
Why are you on the PowerPlay Horcoff? Is this mandated by Katz?
b-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o
When can we put Nilsson back in the press box?
Well. That was a garbage period. At least there's no way the third can be any worse right?
This game is sucks... Hope I wake up to a comeback... have a feeling it will be a shut-out.
@jeanshorts
ooooooo - careful... take care when you're managing those expectations, eh? lol
*Cue montage of Liam Reddox and Dominic Pittis suiting up for 3rd period PP action*
@Librarian Mike
Dominic Pittis, wow, talk about scraping the bottom of the crap former oilers barrel,
The sad thing is that Toby Reddox probably would have been the best looking player for the Oilers so far.
That's rich of Kypreos lecturing about running a goalie. I'd like to see what Grant Fuhr has to say about that.
So far in this game we've played very well...aside from the defensive zone....and special teams....and scoring goals....
@Librarian Mike
I was actually really surprised to see Mr. Concussion himself having no problem with the Mike Richards hit earlier. Mind you he probably doesn't remember 3/4 of his career.
My God are McLean and Kypreos ever a couple of mouth-breathers. Even together they can't finish a coherent sentence.
I was in my truck for the first 2 periods - Rod Phillips is freaking over the turnovers and creating new words to describe them. I bet he said "Horcoff shoots it wide of the net" and " Oilers turn the puck over " 1 or 239 times.
