GDB XI: Clash on the coast

I'm not one to dwell on the past. That would mean the revisiting of so many addictions that I'd most likely relapse. Like, into my World of Warcraft addiction. And no one here wants that. Who would update OilersNation?
So rather than dwell on the Oilers' third straight loss against the Calgary Flames in the latest Battle of Alberta tilt, I'm going to focus on the eleventh game of the 2009/10 season against the hated-as-much-as-the-Flames-if-not-more Vancouver Canucks.
Tonight is the second regular season meeting between these two hockey clubs. The Canucks are coming off a win last night against the Maple Leafs, an altogether meaningless endeavour since the Leafs have managed to tally a grand total of one point this season so far and precisely zero wins (it's hard, but I'm resisting making 75,000 Brian Burke jokes right now). This false sense of hope brings the Canucks to and even .500 so far this season.
Well la-de-freakin'-da.
While the Oilers didn't fare well against the Flames last night, we can really chalk this up to two things:
- H1N1 or some variant thereof: We were down a whole line last night! The Canadian government stated last week they'd start doling out vaccinations. For the love of Hemsky, please make the Oilers one of the number one priorities for shots. Old people can wait.
- Crappiness: I can't say I watched the whole game last night, but many in the Nation did. And many of you concluded the same thing: it just wasn't a great effort last night.
But I tend to take on the same attitude as Oilers' Jambalaya writer Smokin' Ray Burnt. He had this to say earlier today:
"With a crappy game like last night against the fLames. Expect the flu ridden Oilers to have a chip on their shoulders tonight against the Vancouver Canucks."
The Oil have had a great start to the season. My hope for tonight is that they're mad as hell and aren't going to take any BS from the Canucks. The Canucks, meanwhile, are looking for that tipping-point game to take them over .500.
Tonight's game will not help them.
Oilers 4 Canucks 2 tonight. Look for more points from PDP. But you already knew that.
Oh, and don't forget to check out what the competition is saying.
Missed the 2nd, did I miss anything?
NO! GO AWAY!
Just kidding :)
WOW, what a laser from #12 - I never knew I could shoot the puck harder than an NHL'er...
Oh, but it's only Nilsson... never mind
How was that not a hold by Raymond there??? In terms of the crappy NHL rules.
...way to go 'delorean'
NNNOOOOOO!!! PLEASE GOD NO!!!!!
Heal quick Vish, you're needed on the pp.
WTF!!! Idiotic careless play by Grabner.
that almost looked intentional by Grabner on Visn...WTF! How long are we gonna just get it from these guys?
alright - Lubo takes one for the team..... let's see that #10 (!?!?!?!?) ranked PP!!!!!
You know, I respect U2, but Bono looks like such an a-hole when he spasms on stage. Well, he looks like an a-hole in general, but, whatever.
Man I miss Big Sexy. Really miss him.
I think the game's going to be decided by what they do in this PP.
STOP. SHOOTING. IT. AT. THEIR. D. MEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank god my hair is short otherwise I'd be throwing it all over my apartment right now.
Dammit, do we ever need a greasy goal right now. Penner, I'm looking at you.
~Apparently the book on Luongo is that he's vulnerable to sharp angle perimeter shots. It's only a matter of time.~
@jeanshorts
I can hear that Irish douche from where I live
is that all is left our our PP: Stortini??? where's McT when you need him....:-)))
HUGE play Vish.
This team has to be leading the league in turnovers. It's ridiculous.
It hurts me to see Stortini getting so much time on the PP.
@socaldave
I don't even listen to U2, but for whatever reason I'm watching that live Youtube webcast. It's probably because I'm one of those people that will take a free sample of something even if I hate it. Free stuff is the best stuff!
...how the $%#$ long does it take to set up a decent PP? Hemsky useless again. Can somebody else try to run the PP???
Mike Bishai, Brian Swanson, Todd Elik, Kevin Todd, Peter Sarno, Ralph Intranuvo, Toby Petersen, Steve Kelly, Jiri Dopita (right Robin?)...
Hmmmm, who else? So far Swanson is my favorite.
I don't think having Sully on the point is helping his confidence. He is getting worse.
Do you think they know that they should be trying to score on the PP?
:-)
Hello LM
They can kill MacT, but they can never kill MacT hockey...
Wow Keslar, u so bad ass!
Yeah Kesler, you're still a douche, even inspite of trying to look cool breaking your stick.
That " Loouu " chant makes me want to puke.
RYAN KNOWS!
Wow Kessler....you are a huge douche.
Hey! Moreau touched the puck!
anybody believes we can win a hockey game while 0/6 on the PP?
@dragon
we cant even score 5 0n 3
Douche or not, Kesler could play on my team anyday.
That Home Hardware commercial cheered me up a little. At least I'm not one of those guys. Glass half full.
painful reminder. no scoring 5-3, no scoring on 4min PP...wtf. even this beer sucks right now.
AAAAHHHHHHH! JUST PUT THE PUCK IN THE NET! JUST ONCE! All I ask now is that douchehat Luongo doesn't get the shutout.
Maybe the Oilers need someone to play with Penner?
hell, we can't even score on empty net. I bet PDP is reaching his frustration level right now. Can we bring him a quality RW? HO,HO,HO....
Time to earn a little of your salary Noscorecoff.
God this game feels like the Canucks are up 6-0.
I think I can hear a fat lady singing.
Gilbert did make a nice play on that Kesler partial break....if he does that 74 more times he will make up for all the give aways.
1:30 is more than enough time to mount a comeback.
Oh Penner. Nice try.
Seriously O'Sullivan, I'm going to go all "dad" on you if you don't stop shooting the puck at the god damn Vancouver defensemen!
Great. Just f*cking great. Worst weekend for sports ever.
If anyone needs me I'll be writing strongly worded letters to every one of the Oilers, minus JDD. The good news is he has looked pretty stellar so far.
I wish that I could do my job half assed and blame it on having the flu.
nah... here goes another one. we can file it under either oh-so-tired-back-to-back or we-suffer-badly-during-flu-season. ta,ta...see you next game!
