GDB XXVII: Seriously? On the road again?

Coming on the heels of the announcement that Ales Hemsky's season was over, the Oilers put up a great effort against San Jose last night. It wasn't the result I was hoping for, but in the words of Willis, "It could have been much worse."

So tonight we get into with the Canucks. We're down a Czech and they're up a Swede. Last week, Daniel Sedin re-joined the Canucks bench after missing 18 games because of a broken foot. Meanwhile, our team plays missing eight guys (a stat from TSN.ca says we've lost 154 man games 155 man games to injury. Not boy games, people. MAN games) and the rest of the team has been playing with scurvy. At least, that's what I've been telling everyone who asks me why the Oilers aren't so hot right now.

The Oilers have only won three of their last 10 games, and this is our first road game on a six-game stretch. It's going to be key for the Oilers to, you know, go out there and TRY to win. No stupid mistakes, no own-zone flubs, nothing but perfect passes and scoring.

Easy, right?

Villainous Vancouver

The Canucks have won six of their last ten games. The Sedin sisters are back together, and have demanded that Canucks management install an Easy-Bake Oven in the locker room. Management has acquiesced to their demands.

And while the Canucks have two more wins on the season than us, they have guys hurting two. Granted it's only about half as many. Shit, I'm depressing myself.

There's something to be said for being mad as hell, though. And I know fans are. I can only imagine that the players are too — this isn't the OIlers' dream season some kool-aid drinkers had hoped it would be. If they aren't pissed their missing Hemsky for the season, then they should be.

I got the impression from Strudwick's interview last night that he didn't want Hemsky's injury to prove naysayers right: that the Oilers are screwed without the star player.

It's step-up time, boys. And we have a lot of steps to get where we need to be.

3-1 for the good guys tonight.

Go Oilers!

Is it too early for complete panic? Because my head is telling me to start parting out guys like Staios and Horc* to teams that will take them and start the rebuild. Because this re-tool crap hasnt worked in 4 years and it doesnt look like it ever will.

Oilers' boys playing Canucks' men tonight! 4 - 0 Vancouver after 8 minutes. One shot on goal by the Oil. Already pulled DeLauriers. Pat Quinn's blood pressure is going off the chart. On their way to 14th spot on the Western Conference chart. And have five more games on this road trip. We know Tambellini has disappeared but what about the owner, Katz? Should be a mercy rule, after so many losses, an AHL team replaces the Oil. Couldn't be much worse. All the media is looking forward to Pat Quinn's post-game press conference. Will be a better performance than his team.

Yeah because getting a third line center would immediately turn this team around.

Get over it. It's time to concentrate of getting rid of players, not taking on more dead weight.

Wow! Tambellini is really starting to piss me off. Calgary has been able to "trim the fat" (e.g. Vandemeer) so why can't we? Ecklund currently has Staal to the Oilers, with Cogliano, Grebeshkov, and a pick to Carolina. Yeah it's Ecklund but currenly truth is not better than fiction. So, Staal to the Oilers is my glimmer of hope for the day. Frick I'd take Tambo organizing some H1N1 shots, just so we know he's alive.

It means we will make a trade for Marian Gaborik only to discover he has a NMC and won't come here, our management team will fly to his summer home in Slovakia 16,287 times during the summer to convince him to come here, only for him to discover that New York is not such a bad place after all. Cause isn't that how we are supposed to rebuild?

5 - 1, end of first. Broadcasters refer to the first four Vancouver goals as an explosion. Another explosion is expected in the Oilers' dressing room. Has Tambo left the Garage yet?

You know, Milbury may just be one of the worst GM's in the history of the NHL, but I'm a pretty big fan of his HNIC tenure. Especially when he screams at Al Strachan.

I can see the quotes at the end of the year, about how they're much better than the 50 losses they put up

f***ing Wanye better be getting lit up enough for all of us, otherwise he's gonna completely lose it when he wakes up and sees the scoreline... but at least he's got a legal magic amnesia solution easily at hand!

Well the quotes from Tambi will say something about how he is going to add grit to the line up and we keep waiting for effective players to come here but then we get tricked to looking for an eagle in the sky and next thing we know Sergi Kostitsen(sp?) is now an Oiler
