GDB 56: Broken vs broken
Wanye

Assuming the Coyotes don't file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in the next few hours, the Oilers will face Phoenix tonight in Glendale, Arizona. A team that is broken against a team that is just plain broke. On a Monday too. Squee (?)!
At the risk of jinxing a three-game winning streak, this match should be one where the Oil eek out a win. At the risk of jinxing the starting goalie, one would have to assume that JDD will play that role and that ol' man Roloson would get the start tomorrow against the Juggernaut that is Shark.
But in this crazy MacT-coached world anything is possible now, isn't it? Perhaps MacT will dip into his bag of tricks and start Strudwick in net, citing his versatility and work ethic as principle reasons for getting the start. Perhaps the Oil will forgo a tender altogether, favoring a six-man attack for a full three periods. We had a coach in Pee Wee that once pulled the goalie for the entire third period because of our lack of defensive play. THAT team had some heart, we can tell you that.
Whatever happens tonight this is another one of those games that won't earn the Oil critical acclaim if they win, but one where all kinds of holy hell will break loose if they lose. Kind of like last year when we fought that eight-year-old at the Waterpark. No one was cheering when we were raining thunderous kicks and punches upon our opponent early on, but we sure heard about it when we eventually lost.
That chick had crazy fighting skills though. Whatever.
FMNF
Oilers 4, Coyotes 2.
Gagner with the Gordie Howe hat trick tonite. That's right.
Oil website says roli is starting tonight. How old is he again?? 23? oh wait...
Oilers by a jillion.
GAME DAY!!!
No reason for Roloson to start tomorrow. Might as well take a shot at the win tonight with Roloson and feed whatever is left to San Jose tomorrow.
I seen a white owl nab a muskrat today. It was crazy. Right in front of us. So that means another Oiler blowout. 6-1 Oilers. Yeah! GO OILERS!
82 - 0 for the Oilers. It will be like playing the Bolivian National team.
Carcillo will get his face further rearranged by Strudwick.
GOILERS!

I don't know, didn't Rolli stop something like 287 shots that one time we barely beat San Jose? We've got a fighting chance! The same kind of chance a Special Olympian would have if they competed in the actual Olympics, but a chance none the less!

Agreed. Now is the time of year you have to play the percentages. Besides, maybe the Sharks not having alot of intel on JDD might be an advantage. Whateva. Sharks game is a throwaway just like playing Detroit. But that means you gotta win tonight. We come away with 3 of 4 on this trip and that FMNF line might have to be retired.
Oilers 5-3
Sorry for being out of touch, but what does "FMNF" mean?

Fire Mactavish Now F*ckers.
So they will move then... Vegas ? Maybe not( SEE XFL )
So will they JET back to Winnipeg, after closing the doors?.....Mmmm Now that is a interesting Idea ....
Funny enough, I just saw "Semi-pro" Go Tropics ! and of course Paul Newman in "Slapshot"
Maybe Wayne could jump on the ice, as a player coach...
Now I would pay five bucks to see that !

Damn man, this is the reason I keep coming back!!!! Or, like south park where cartman pretends to be "Special" so that he can win the Specail olympics....and he loses!!! haha, gold, pure gold!!!
Strudwick in net, that's rich!
this is the game you play Roli, I play JDD against the sharks reason this is a game we must win the shark game even with Roli we are lucky to win. Play Roli tonight and play JDD against the Sharks, and then come back with Roli in Dallas, as we can win that one to.
This is going to seem like it came out of no where but as someone who often reads the comments but rarely says anything I have the following question... what's with the lame revisionist history that MacTavish didn't do a good job coaching the cup run? That run is the reason why he is respected by a lot of people around the league... I'm not saying he hasn't made mistakes this year but why try to rewrite history?
Oilers win 4-3. Peckham beats up Carcillo.
Oilers win 4-0.
Stortini hugs Carcillo.
Is Silken Laumann the rare exception of a Special Olympian who dominated at the real Olympics? That horsefaced broad sure could row a boat...
5-2 Oil! Fatty with a pair!

If I remember correctly, the thing that MacT did right was he picked his lines and stuck with them. He did ok in that run but he was not the reason the Oilers went to the finals. The reason we got there, and it hurts so much to admit this, was Chris Pronger.
Pronger was absolutely incredible. Roli was everything you want from your playoff goalie. Hell, even Raffi Torres was useful... but I remember the Oil having issues with either the PK or the PP and coming back after intermission and the issue being gone... I remember them shutting down the Sharks with a trap system that they didn't use in the regular season... and I remember MacT getting the most out of that team. Obviously he wasn't the only reason for the cup run but it is disingenuous to say that he wasn't a factor at all.
@ Librarian Mike:
Now if I remember correctly, it wasn't CP that decided to use a "trap/defensive" system. And that was the reason we made it past Detroit. For every team that the Oilers played, MacT changed things slightly. They played a little different for each opponent. Now no doubt CP had lots to do with the run, he wasn't the reason why we went that far. If anything... it was Roli, not CP.

And a team figuring out how to play way above their collective batting average for two months straight. In my mind, that was the coolest thing. You knew they shouldn't be there, yet they came within 1 game of taking the whole deal. Having said that, while the players certainly make the coach, MacT had some inspired moments too.
Anyone know why Sportsnet has abandoned HD for Oil games lately? What the hell am I stealing cable for? If I had to pay Shaw for this, I'd be mighty pissed...

Here's the list of HD games on The Gene Principe Network for the remainder of the season:

Yay overactive GDB again!!!
Gretz out having a nice dinner with his lady again?
Game isn't exactly lighting it up either. Anyways, I'm hoping for Evanka between periods.
Oh Eugene Principe, YOU'RE worth fighting for.
Dinner can wait. It's game time.... This place is dead.

Rubbing the pork? Dumping the dark?
Which one?
They're mixing it up on BM's page.
No HD, no goals, no Evanka. This game has already jumped the shark.

Jumping the Shark.
No Wanye. No Gregor. No Brownlee. No Evanka. And no shots of the Coyote's ice girls (why do they do that?).
Family Day indeed.
@ Lenny Bamboo:
Its been a long time Mr. Bamboo
Nice comments from Wayne regarding Hemsky:
"He IS definitely one of the games elite players and just might be the league's best passer. He's unselfish and wants to win badly."
Not bad coming from a guy who knows a thing or two about offensive talent???

You know, Maybe Nilsson should take a Sundin/Niedermyer type vacation every year. He doesn't show up till after christmas anyway
Moreau...you iiiiiiidiot!
Man I hate it when we play down to weak teams we should be blowing out.
Note to Wanye:
Please replace "MacT" with "Moreau" in FMNF.
Thx.
@ David S:
Hey man, don't forget that sweet ass hit the other game. That gives him a pass in my book.
^ You got a point there Travis.
