UPDATED 10:45 MDT

Just received the following dispatch from Gregor:

"My gut says it will be Pat Quinn as head coach with Tom Renney as associate coach. I can’t get any confirmation on that, but that’s my guess. Either way, this is Tambellini’s biggest decision so I won’t be surprised if he goes with guys he knows and trusts. He can’t afford a George Burnett type of situation. The new coach has to be a hard-ass that the veterans will pay attention to. That is Quinn. The associate needs to be a technical guy. That is Renney. I don’t know who will be the assistant, but I hear that Buchburger will be in the organization in some capacity, but not as coach. I will have more after the presser…or tune in to TEAM 1260 for all the reaction.

According to our very own patented (uh, sort of?) Oilers New Aggregator 2.0®, the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club has called a news conference today at noon mountain time. Could this herald the arrival of our long-awaited head coach? Will Steve Tambellini tell us what he brought to work for lunch today?

WILL THERE BE PUDDING?

In my mind, this can mean two things: we're going to either hear who the new head coach is, or it's going to be some BS about another largely irrelevant (to fans, anyway) front-office appointment. Let's hope it's the former.

DISCUSS.

Bingofuel is the handsome cyborg who pulls all the levers behind the curtains of the OilersNation. When he isn't running the site, he's plugged into a wall socket, recharging. Or Brownlee and Wanye are playing "keep away" with him. He gets little to no respect.

Man if this is to announce a new coach. They kept it tight lipped. Not even a sniff of who it could be, 1hr30 mins left. You think someone would of seen someone around the city. Here's hoping its not marc crawford

So it looks like Wayne-O wasn't in the running after all. Kudos to Tambellini for getting real coaches, if the posting is accurate.

Sportsnet is saying it's a 'major announcement'. Maybe it'll consist of Bob Stauffer holding up his cellphone with the following text message from Katz:

kLO job iz safe 4 reelz ;)

...or not.

great, Quinn knows so much about 90's style hockey... let's face it, until the Oilers make some major moves he's not going to be able to do much better with this team than Mac T - prepare for another mediocre season before an exciting joust for 8th place.

....easy does it brother. Batman has given Robin the go ahead to persue a bonafied star. With Pat Quinn and Tom Renney coming that may be enuf to entice some star quality for the first line!

I like it, Who ever said Quinn knows so much about 90's style hockey... what ever. Quinn is a good coach, he knows what needs to change to get the team competitive in todays game. Old dogs can learn new tricks. Besides he did very well with the young guns at the world juniors. I think he'll do well with our team, demand respect from the old vets and impress the new young guys. Lets hope with a big name coach we can get a big name player or two...just hoping.

Agreed. Anyone know if it's within the rules to buy out Jagr's contract in the KHL to get him to sign as a free agent here?

Its a good hire, Quinn can coach the young kids and get through to the vets. Renney is capable, I wonder how this hiring fits into the Jagr equation? Hmmm.. All I know is next year is going to be a interesting one for Oiler fans.

Kudos to Robin. Don't know if it was a hunch, an educated guess, a lucky guess (lol ya right) or what but once again you were bang on. Your concept wasn't all that unheard of (need only look at the Flames the last couple years, although the oilers duo looks much, much better). Good stuff.

Just watch Tambo out Boys On The Bus Lowe and announce a Lee Fogolin-Pat Hughes Co-Coach combo. Semenko on Special Teams. Joey and Sparky will switch roles. Jason Bonsignore as new Head of Scouting. Andrei Kovalenko? Travel Planner.

And a new Oilers mandate that EVERYONE has a moustache!

I always love the "he did good with the young guns at the worlds"

Big deal, he took the mid 80's Oiler junior hockey equivalent and barely won a tourney they are supposed to win.

Best coaching tandem in the league...? most encouraging day to be an oiler fan since October 18th when the oil started the season 4-0.

Now we just need the team to perform...

Love the 2 for 1. What are the odds that Renney will be the next coach after Quinn.
