Journey to the Fin Du Monde

As loyal Nationeers are aware, something excellent happened last week – something that could only happen when a bunch of ridiculous Oilers fans band together to ensure that they're getting best coverage a young website can provide them with.
Like a pack of maddened, hockey-obsessed jackals, you goons got together and decided to fundraise to send a Nation writer to Montreal so you could get all the Entry Draft coverage you'd ever want. It started with a snide remark Brownlee made about Wanye being a "cheap screw".
And fair enough. Wanye's so cheap he steals empty cans of Lucky Lager and then comes to my place to fill them up with my über-expensive vitamin P. And I have to spend the next week sober. SOBER while trying to maintain order here.
But when long-time OilersNation commenter humantorch (currently livin' large in Holland) suggested he'd pitch in a few bucks to send Brownlee to cover the Draft, well... For those of you just joining us, this should get you up to speed.
Show me the money
I bet a lot of you are wondering how things are going so far. I'm pleased to say that there's no question anymore: we WILL be sending herr Gregor to the 2009 NHL Entry Draft this coming weekend. Will Fraser and Brownlee are even going to cover his show while he's gone!
Here's the breakdown for you:
TEAM 1260 donation: $1,000 Wanye's donation: $500
For a total of $1,500. Not bad, right? What's really astonishing, though, is you guys.
You have raised a whopping $1,815 at last count.
That makes for a grand total of $3,315!
Sweet shit, Nation! You've done it. Gregor, Club Supersex, schooners of Fin Du Monde beer... You'll have your Draft coverage!
Don't stop now
I'm only joking, of course. As stated before, any money raised exceeding what's required for Gregor to cover the Main Event over the weekend will be donated to the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. So don't stop now! Let's try and get together an obscene amount of money for the kiddies, and I'll make sure Brownlee, Gregor and myself get a photo of us handing over a novelty-sized cheque to the fine men and women at the Stollery.
And who will that cheque be from?
Why, the fine Citizens of the OilersNation.com, of course.

I agree but I'd be afraid we'd have to give Hossa that 7.5 over 10ish years. I'd far rather have Heatly's 5 year.
That said...
@ Brownlee/Gregor, does Hossa's SCF performance make Det think twice about spending the last of their cap space on Hossa?
Travis Dakin wrote:
Hemsky has never been, nor likely never will be the goal scorer that Hossa is.
Mountain Crest hurts you in the morning, better have good bathroom reading material. Black Label was decent cheap, but now middle of the road price, maybe people saying "This aint complete shit" got to their heads. Lately, sadly, TNT has been my beer of ~choice~. First 2-3 meh, but after that I dont taste em anyway (whoever said low alcohol tolerance is a bad thing either has too much money, or is trying to stay more sober than his date).
Heatley v Hossa, its a coin flip as to who is better player. But I'd take Heatley in Oiler silks over the two. Sure we wouldnt move assets for Hossa, but we'd need to anyway to afford Heatley, maybe we get a good young guy or a third line player for those assets instead with Hossa sure. But my choice would be move whatever we need to to land Heatley on draft day, and have the guaranteed star in our pocket come July 1st and try to land our Third liner there, rather than take a chance at Hossa (even with lowering cap, <- debatable as to how much, I believe Hossa still likely to eclipse Heatleys 7.5 mil cap hit, unless takes a cut for a Stanley Cup contender again - but he wants long term) and be left trying to dump salary and trading from a position of weakness.
ON rocks, definitely need to hit up the next ON gathering and party with the most generous, fanatical, and just plain Bat-shit crazy hockey fans in the world. (Get the dude from Amsterdam here and we need to buy him a beer or twenty)

He's only just begun to become a shooter. He's never had a good set-up man. He's been a one man show for the last three years. Someone at his skill level to play with would be the piece of the puzzle missing to bring him in to the upper echelon. I don't see him being a 40+ goal scorer but a 30+ guy.... yeah.
My point was that they are both right wingers and that's not what they need.
Me and my roommate used to spilt a 6-pack of Kokanee and a case of AGD. We'd pound 3 Kokanees each just to get a little slobbery and then polish of the AGD when our taste buds were a little numbed.
@Gregor
My best memory of drinking Black Label was when I was on a pub crawl and we stopped at The Standard and me and a couple of my buddies decided to buy a flat of Black Label from the Barley Teens Liquor Store and proceed to shotgun them Wanye-style. Good times.
I have an idea. Can we get Gregor an ON t-shirt, 2 sizes too small, to wear to the draft. We know Gregor likes tight shirts specially when he is dancing. Seriously, we should get him an ON t so he can get a pic of him giving the goat horns next to Burke!
I'm always so proud to be affiliated with this site when it comes time for good ol' fundraising. Yes, it's great that Gregor is heading to Montreal but it's even better that the Stollery will benefit.
Well done everyone. Gregor have a great time. I'll pick up a tube of herpes ointment for when you return!
@ Amber: save your money Amber, I still got half a bottle left that I picked up last time I was in Montreal, I'll send it to him......express courier

Nope. Not a chance.
You're a classy guy Gregor. Cheers.
Hey you saskatchewan boys... how about the old sicks brewery in Prince Albert and the infamous brew Bohemian? People used to drunk drive for miles on those so called roads to find a bar with a case of offsale... that stuff was IT for a while. They ran that brewery 24/7 to keep up, LOL.
Its has resurfaced as an intestinal cleansing product c/w a voucher for spare stanfields.
@ roughneck: I remember good ol' "Boh" from my days at the U of S. Yick... that stuff was never much fun the next day.
roughneck wrote:
LOL - I learned in the Pilsner movie on the website that "Sicks Brewing" started brewing Pil as well. You can still get the stuff - just brewed by Molson.
One of the other beers brewed by them was 'Lethbridge Beer'.
Has anyone read Scott Pattisons article on HB?
I want whatever he is smokin!
Talk that the Oil are going to get either Vinny L or the Sedin sisters?
Forget the cap problems either one of those options would produce... If the Sedins become oilers I am going to buy Thrashers season tickets for $100 and become their biggest fan.
HB is rediculous no rhyme or reason to the stuff they post just retarded and impossible propositions.
@ Travis Dakin: BDHS?
@ The Menace: blackdoghatesskunks.com
One of the good Oiler blogs.
Who is YouTubing bingofuel on Global tonight for me?
Gary Bettman @ Podium: "I would like to announce a trade. (Bells chime & crowd cheers) The Atlanta Thrashers trade the 4th overall pick to Edmonton in exchange for Riley Nash & 10th overall selection in this years draft. (crowd goes wild)"
Predergast @ podium: "With the overall pick the Oilers would like to choose from the Brandon Wheat Kings Sco...GOTCHA. Ha! The Oiler's really choose Evander Kane from the Vancouver Giants. (chuckling) You should have seen the look on all your faces... Scott, sit down son!"

Daum is the coach in Springfield.
@ Shanye Gretz: It's not tonight, my friend, but tomorrow. I'll let everyone know if Global posts a link to the broadcast.

I bet he drank Boh in Pa and Nipawan.
Daums a good guy, I hope he can turn that train wreck around, a few good hands on deck c/o this draft would be a start.
bingofuel wrote:
Definitely let us know about the link. They often post the segments on their site. Then I'll pull it off and convert it to a Youtube video for rabid ON fan base. Or if you guys wanted to drop any hope of anonymity, you could load it on here.
@ bingofuel:
I will set the PVR then! I don't expect a shout out to me, but...
And tip, don't lick the camera...
@ David S:
Wanye's the only one who cares about anonymity. That's why Gregor and I are doing the interview.
I care not. If someone likes recording/ripping things, we can certainly upload it to the ON YouTube account and post it here.
Why does Wanye wish to remain so secretive?
@ bingofuel:
I want to see Gregor get a text from Wanye on-air saying Brownlee isn't going anywhere.
Clever I know.
What's this Global stuff about? Someone wanna fill me in?
@ Jack Bauer:
I've known Wanye since we were 8 years old. And for all his bluster and bravado online, he's pretty shy when it comes to being in the public eye. It's just the way he is.
@ Mowzie:
I pitched the idea of a story to Lynda Steele at Global, talking about how awesome it is that a community of online hockey geeks raised money so they could send a reporter to cover the draft for them. She liked the story, so she's going to interview Gregor and I tomorrow for the Global 5pm show.
I know this is off topic but the Team 1040 is reporting that Edmonton isnt on Heatleys list of cities and that Vancouver is the only Canadian city on the list. They are also saying Gaborik has bought a house here in Vancouver
Okay, well done on the fundraising nation! Now quit resting on past performance like a 37 year old free agent and write a new post. Draft day is about 75 hours away and we are dying for more. Anything, please. Anything. Even Gregors itinary would be a draft subject read

Ya I've read 7 of the supposed 10 teams on his list: Boston Chicago Detroit NY Rangers San Jose LA Vancouver
Also, Edmonton, Colorado, Minnesota & St. Louis have supposedly inquired and may have interest from what I've read. And I believe Rishaugh and/or Dreger said the Oilers aren't high on Heatley's list, but that he would still consider Edmonton.
Wanye,
At 12:41 MST I am dying for a post about the oilers. Anything will do, even an estimate of the weight behind Tom Gilbert's early morning dump could get me excited right now. It would only need to be rough, and most likely completely arbitrary.
Also as a hip hop fan did you cop B.o.B latest tape?
@ Ross Creek
Interesting list. I would question now if Heatley would be happy playing in Edmonton. I would say Gaborik is signing with Vancouver and would be shocked if he didnt
@ Prop Jay:
I'm just checking out the B.o.B tape right now lol. Good stuff so far.
For some reason, I woke up this morning and expected big hockey news, opened my laptop and was bitterly disappointed. Maybe tomorrow.
RossCreek wrote:
Other then LA/Van, none of those teams really look like a fit for Heater.
RossCreek wrote:
Looking at those 7 teams, I'd assume Anaheim would be on there as well. Maybe Dallas and CBJ as well, Jersey maybe?
For some reason I have a feeling San Jose may make a big trade and grab Heatley. They are in a need to win now mode
@ Mowzie:
Mowzie did you get it from my name link?
There is also the wale tape there, and J.cole. - self promotion.
3 tapes that each could be an album and so far are the three albums of the year.
Nice to see some hip hop fans here.
@ Ogden Brother: And if Van picks up Heater and Gaborik... you can bet the sisters will be looking for a new love pad.
I want some big news so badly!!!
Really though Heatley does not have much of a leg to stand on with this NMC. I mean if the teams he has on his "list" do not show interest or dont have an offer Murray likes if I am Murray I tell him listen its here or you are a Senator. After all this publicity, do you think Heatley would want to waltz into the Sens dressing room in the fall and say "hey guys how was the summer?" Not a chance. He would be an outcast immediately. He will go were Murray gets the best deal. He may not like it, but he will go. That being said if he doesnt really want to go, does he pull the same stunt again in a year? Thats the risk.
Prop Jay wrote:
I agree! I'd even read an article by Amber rating the prospects according to thier do-ability...
Well maybe not.
Prop Jay wrote:
No, I'm on HHDX ALL the time. So if there's a decent mixtape, chances are I'm listening to it. Wale's is solid too, that's one I've been anticipating for a long time. It's not as good as the Seinfield mixtape, but it's still excellent.
Have you checked out any of the Drake tapes? alot of them have the same stuff, but that guy is a blast to listen to.
@ Mowzie:
Nice, HHDX is a good site. I contribute for www.smokingsection.net (TSS) so they are kind of the other guys, but great for all the new.
Yeah Im always up on the new stuff cause I got to be for TSS. Drake is gonna be big. I'm going to see him in van in sept. Hopefully try to get a vip pass from TSS. probaly not though, Im a nobody.lol
I gotta say i think J.Cole's is the best out of all them
to keep this on topic, Go Oilers Go.
We need something to happen soon.
Curious wrote:
I think the NMC is the teams option to pick up when they trade for him. If that's the case you don't pick it up. Then if he pulls the same stunt next year you can trade him to Florida and he can rot...
@ Prop Jay:
Ya, Go Oilers, I'm going to Drake/Wayne in Edmonton, but am more excited about RTB in Calgary, Slum Village is one of the groups I've been wanting to see live for EVER, and once and for all I will get to prove to myself that Elzhi isn't just a robot programmed to rap. Drake is gonna be huge, he already has an incredible following and a veteran's cache, maybe more so in the States than in Canada.
A Exclaim writer approached me to review for them, but I don't think I'm qualified enough, I don't think I could break down music enough to review it objectively. I'll check out TSS for sure, sorry for hitting the competition, but I've just been there for so long that it's the first place I go.
Heatley, JBO, Oiler, Moreau, Eberle. There, now it's hockey related.

If Van picks up Heater and Gaborik, I will cry and break things and hurt people. Goddamm that better not happen.

Unless, of course, it works out as well for them as when they picked up Messier, or more recently, Sundin... Vancouver may be better off sticking with the Sisters being that they came up through the Vancouver system.
So who gets the Sedins now? With Gaborik and either Hossa, Havlat or Heatley going there we maybe we are better off with the Sedins as our second line.
