10:14pm MDT update: Heatley will not waive his no-trade clause. He stays in Ottawa, and won't come here.

Earlier tonight: Just got off the phone with Gregor:

"The Oilers have traded Dustin Penner, Ladislav Smid and Andrew Cogliano for Dany Heatley. This will add $2.1 million to the Oilers' payroll."

He also mentioned that Hossa talks with LA have broken off.

Finally, the handsome devil teased me with this one: the Oil aren't done dealing yet.

OH EM GEE

Bingofuel is the handsome cyborg who pulls all the levers behind the curtains of the OilersNation. When he isn't running the site, he's plugged into a wall socket, recharging. Or Brownlee and Wanye are playing "keep away" with him. He gets little to no respect.

As much as it's nice to get information instantly on these here internets, it sure is a mindf##ck when the two major sports stations are reporting conflicting stories pre-maturely. weak.

what a fiasco, i got excited, then disappointment. Sens should send the crybaby to the minors for the next 5 years and let him rot there!!!

If there's another 24 hour window before his bonus kicks in, isn't there still an outside chance that Heatley could end up in Oil silks? Any number of people could be recruited to try and persuade him from Edmonton's side, including Pat Quinn, and the Sens could put the screws to him if a better offer isn't received, too.

I'm having a tough time guessing how this is going to play out in the end: having once been fooled into believing it was a done deal I'm now hesitant to believe with equal conviction that it's not.

So, basically, Murray was trying to get the best deal, widening the scope of offers by negotiating with a team or (teams) that Heatley didn't want to go to, gambling on the fact that he'd want to play in Ottawa LESS than he'd want to go to somewhere not on his Christmas Wish List. I guess he figured that it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission? Awful. God, it hurts to love the Copper and Blue some days. Can't help myself, though.

Im really unable to wrap my head around this whole thing. Calgary seems to be a hot bed for EDMONTON born players to play, yet 280kms north its like the world ends and edmonton is hanging off the edge. Wtf is the deal really? The cancers that lowe and mact were have been removed. We have a billionaire owner, loyal fans, a new building in the works, and legit youngsters, YET, no one comes here. IF any of these over paid pussies sat down for 2 minutes and realized that coming here would make them Superstars in the minds of hockeys fan here, and that life would change for the better, maybe this bad rep and karma streak were on would change. 1 vagina is all it takes to make a good night. If he comes (came) then the flood gates would have surely opened.

Someday, someday i promise, one of them will be smart enough to smell the cheese and come here. Im just wondering if at 24 ill ever see it.

f#$k

This is confusing as F***. So he did refuse to waive his no trade clause? Or he didn't? From what I understand it sounds like Ottawa killed the deal because they found out they had another 24 hours to find something they like better. Somebody want to make this clearer?

So were we on his list or weren't we. If we were I couldnt understand any team actually taking him, obviously he has some kind of complex which im not qualified to arbitrarily diagnose. If we were not on our list why was that information not made known so that Tambo and our organization was allowed to plan for other avenues? right now I feel angry at somebody but untill the dust settles I wont direct it at anyone in particular....everyone seems fair enough for now.

New to the forum. As an Oiler fan living in Calgary this is tough to take. My view now - forget free agents, forget trades, forget Penner, Moreau, Roli, and anyone over 32. Go with the kids in net, go with the kids up front, miss the playyoffs for a few more years, draft high and build a winner from inside. And Heatley can have a great career somewhere where hockey doesn't matter and where hsi millions will buy him a big house, but never the cup.

i really dont care how penner takes it, his days here are numbered weather this deal, another deal or a buy out lead to it.

smid is restricted so his options are limited as to how he takes it.

Cogs prolly is upset it didnt happen, hes from the t.o area and was probably happy about the prospect of moving closer to home. That being said i hope he knows hes ours for 6 more years and better live up to his obligations unlike the sack of sand he was almost delt for.

What the heck do we do now? We can't even land FA's and malcontents that are FROM this city!

I love it here and will probably never move, but is it so bad to anyone else that isn't on this website that the only way we could ever hope to be competitive again is to tank it hard like the Pens, Caps, and the Islanders (assuming JT pays off like he should)?

I think we need a collective ON group hug.

Completely IRRESPONSIBLE reporting by Jason Gregor. He was adamant on 1260 that the deal was done, even cursed on Cory's show (which is ridiculous considering he of all people should know radio etiquette), and dropped the ball HARD. Take some responsibility! This is not the fault of the NHL, the Oilers, The Sens - Its your fault and 1260's fault for putting you on the air with it. If his source was so credible, why wasn't it aired on the rights holder station first? Why did TSN not pick it up (Prob because Mckenzie knows more than Gregor). The other media that picked it up, did so based on Gregors report - do your research and you will confirm that based on timings of the reports.

This is NOT Dany Heatleys fault either. He has a NMC clause in his contract for a reason, he never ok'd it, which is why no legitimate media source released the info, INCLUDING the league.

The buck stops with Gregor and 1260. Own up to your mistake, you claimed it was 99% done, then upgraded to 110% done. If it was 110% you would have had a tsn text alert first. Gregor has lost all credibility in my books, 1260 included (dropped the ball twice now), you guys make Eklund look knowledgable.

Disgusted.

SPORTSNET.CA

An agreed-upon deal that would have seen disgruntled Ottawa Senator Dany Heatley become an Edmonton Oiler in exchange for Andrew Cogliano, Dustin Penner and Ladislav Smid is on hold.

There is some confusion surrounding a $4 million bonus that was to be paid to Heatley on July 1.

Heatley's agent J.P. Barry told Sportsnet.ca late Tuesday night that "it is our position that the [bonus] deadline is not until [Wednesday] night. We believe the [trade] decision does not have to come until that time", said Barry.

Speaking to Sportsnet, NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly agreed. "[Heatley] can be traded at any time. My view is obligation on signing bonus installment can be transferred any time up to midnight [Wednesday] night," said Daly.

As far as the trade to Edmonton goes, the deal is not totally dead according to Barry.

"Dany is going to sleep on it", said Barry. Heatley would not however commit to informing the teams ahead of Tuesday's 12 noon ET free agency period opening.

Also, Barry stated that Heatley did not say no to the Oilers deal, but he has not said yes either.

here we go, another summer of discontent. Now oilers are paying for Klowes mismanagement from years previous. what kind of spin are the boys gonna put on this rotting heap of bs. how can calgary pull move after move year in and year out and oilers are stuck on the outside looking in once again.
