Gregor rings... Heatley stays in Ottawa

10:14pm MDT update: Heatley will not waive his no-trade clause. He stays in Ottawa, and won't come here.

Earlier tonight: Just got off the phone with Gregor:

"The Oilers have traded Dustin Penner, Ladislav Smid and Andrew Cogliano for Dany Heatley. This will add $2.1 million to the Oilers' payroll."

He also mentioned that Hossa talks with LA have broken off.

Finally, the handsome devil teased me with this one: the Oil aren't done dealing yet.

OH EM GEE

Bingofuel is the handsome cyborg who pulls all the levers behind the curtains of the OilersNation. When he isn't running the site, he's plugged into a wall socket, recharging. Or Brownlee and Wanye are playing "keep away" with him. He gets little to no respect.

is that the concensus then, me thinks not. Despite Mckenzies articale which says he refused to waive, which to me may mean that he heard the deal was dead and extrapolated, there is no definitive answer either way. Perhaps OTT put it on hold because they had more time, or heatley wanted to sleep and decide or he did say no. Right now we do not have any real knowledge unless Tambo murray or the nhl has commented since I was typing this up that is.

The first thing you should know is that the Dany Heatley trade to Edmonton is not officially dead. At least not yet... No one should suggest Heatley is prepared to waive his no-movement clause to go to Edmonton any more than it should be suggested he absolutely won't... That final decision has not been made because Heatley's agent, J.P. Barry, believed the actual deadline was at 11:59 p.m. eastern on Wednesday night, not 11:59 p.m. eastern on Tuesday night.

Think of this for a moment. We are having a pretty crappy evening right now, right? What about all the Oiler fans that went to bed already? They have no clue what's going on. They are snuggled up to their loved one and they are thinking about how bad ass the Oilers are going to be with Dany Heatley. They are imagining him scoring off of a sweet Hemsky to Gagner pass play. Oh man... There is going to be a lot of crappy mornings tomorrow when they all wake up. Happy Canada Day to us huh? F*cking Dany Heatley and his Bull Sh*t NMC. Who f*cking gives those out to players anyways? Idiots!

The major sports stations WERE reporting the trade. I found out about it on TSN, so obviously you dont know what you're talking about.

You're criticizing a media guy for reporting the news as it happens? uh...ok...i sure hate the way the weather man keeps telling me about the temperature too. What a jackass.

Thanks for the update. Seems reasonable to want to think about it if the Oil wasn't on his original list. I would have thought Murray would have talked to him when the conversation with EDM started. Not that I think Heatley should be picky given his request, but shouldn't Murray have laid the groundwork up front to prevent this situation?

As long as we know by noon ET, Tambo can have Hossa on the line at 12:01 and give him the money instead (or the Bulin wall and try to outscore everyone 2-1 next year)

You want to get technical? TSN reported an offer was made. Sportsnet said the same. Gregor went on a holier than thou routine - and I'm not an idiot, he would've reemed anyone out if they went against his word at the time. TSN never said it was done, I followed sportsnet, 25 minutes after Gregor said it was 110% DONE, they said it was done too (probably based on principe's connection to edmonton).

@ Chris: Or sportsnet eh? You gotta know that when people report it's a done deal they are getting it from a reliable source, NOBODY would risk their reputation on something that they didn't feel was concrete. TSN has two of the most inside guys in the hockey world so they were getting different intel.

Let me ask you this, If you're Gregor and say Cogliano texts you and says he's just been traded along with penner and Smid to Ottawa for Heatley, would you report it? What about a hat tip from inside the Oiler organization? What if your other media buddies are also all getting the same story from other sources?

I think this is just another case of instant information. The information could be right but not always all the details.

The fact of the matter remains. The Oilers and the Sens agreed upon a trade. It was reported. That deal hinges on a player's approval. Major outlets like TSN reported the deal as done. They changed it to a flat out refusal. Now they changed it to a maybe. Obviously EVERYONE has been taken through the ringer figuring out what happened with this. So why should Jason Gregor have to take more heat than McKenzie who has changed his story 4 times in the last hour?

If Dany wanted to be here he would have agreed to this deal straight up. His delaying until sometime tomorrow afternoon potentially takes the Oilers out of the hunt for a an elite free agent. But then again the way things have been going lately... I am seriously getting the feeling that those kind of players are never going to voluntarily agree to any kind of contract to come here. It will only be through a trade (as long as they don't have a NMC). Damn it!

@ SAM THE MAN: I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure those guys are professionals and if they haven't had to deal with something like this in the past already, they sure as f*ck won't be butthurt by it, like you apperentely are. It's a business. Guys get traded all the time. It's the business of professional sports.

But that is neither here nor there. What happens if say, oh I don't know, tomorrow, Dany Heatly has a good, long, hard think on the toilet in the morning while he's dropping a poop, and says you know what, let's do it. We're going to Edmonton! Will you still be completely rocked and shaken to your core by the fact that a sports radio station may have jumped the gun a little early on reporting a news story? The fact that you are so utterly appalled by this is god damn hilarious. You must live a really fulfilling, fruitful life. Keep up the good work.

This has the Hossa situation written all over it. Management focuses on one big fish, and when it gets away, the pool is empty. Cut bait, and look somewhere else, Tambo.

Seems to me that there's a real problem with how this team operates. In the business world, there's a concept called due diligence - make sure all I's are dotted, T's are crossed, no stone left unturned, etc.... This is the second time that a supposed done deal has fallen through (see Nylander, Michael). If you've gotten far enough to agree on the terms of a deal, don't you think you want to have the Sens fax you over Heatley's contract so that it can be reviewed with a fine tooth comb? That should have flushed out the confusion regarding the $4m bonus deadline. Heatley's camp is using this as leverage to look for a more preferable destination (especially after the Gomez trade). Yes, I realize the Sens were under the same impression (that the deadline was midnight EST tonight), but it doesn't make sense to not confirm it yourself.

I need a drink...

Please tell me when mckenzie ever said it was done? I will eat my words if you do. Mckenzies edits are with new info about the deadline extension, thats where 1260 picked up that angle from.

Gregor reported it 110% before 9pm man! Sportsnet had it as 'done' on their site around 9:30! I could give a shiz who the sources are, even if its all players involved in the deal. Fact of the matter is, you report when its OFFICIAL. Why didnt we hear the flames signed bouwmeester yesterday when the offer was made? Because it was never confirmed from the league. This was never confirmed, and yes it is about peoples lives. Players included. Gregor f**ked with the players involved in the trade, how are you supposed to keep a good relationship and stay with the team that reportedly traded you. Its a slap in their face.

And thats the medias reponsibility. 1260 is mainstream, if it was a bunch of bloggers on radio speculating, thats one thing. But if its a guy who bases his livelihood on credibility, then you take your lumps.

Just own up to it. Thats all Im saying.
