Gregor rings... Heatley stays in Ottawa

10:14pm MDT update: Heatley will not waive his no-trade clause. He stays in Ottawa, and won't come here.

Earlier tonight: Just got off the phone with Gregor:

"The Oilers have traded Dustin Penner, Ladislav Smid and Andrew Cogliano for Dany Heatley. This will add $2.1 million to the Oilers' payroll."

He also mentioned that Hossa talks with LA have broken off.

Finally, the handsome devil teased me with this one: the Oil aren't done dealing yet.

OH EM GEE

Bingofuel is the handsome cyborg who pulls all the levers behind the curtains of the OilersNation. When he isn't running the site, he's plugged into a wall socket, recharging. Or Brownlee and Wanye are playing "keep away" with him. He gets little to no respect.

Lol! this reminds me of the thing about Garon's personal goalie coach.

I actually don't really care, I didn't listen to 1260, anyways. As an Oilers fan, I'm learning to not believe anything until it's 10000% confirmed.

From Darren Dreger "Heatley has not declined to waive his no-move to go to the Oilers. He's sleeping on it and Ottawa may have other options".

So we wait.

Please tell me when mckenzie ever said it was done? I will eat my words if you do. Mckenzies edits are with new info about the deadline extension, thats where 1260 picked up that angle from. Gregor reported it 110% before 9pm man! Sportsnet had it as ‘done’ on their site around 9:30! I could give a shiz who the sources are, even if its all players involved in the deal. Fact of the matter is, you report when its OFFICIAL. Why didnt we hear the flames signed bouwmeester yesterday when the offer was made? Because it was never confirmed from the league. This was never confirmed, and yes it is about peoples lives. Players included. Gregor f**ked with the players involved in the trade, how are you supposed to keep a good relationship and stay with the team that reportedly traded you. Its a slap in their face. And thats the medias reponsibility. 1260 is mainstream, if it was a bunch of bloggers on radio speculating, thats one thing. But if its a guy who bases his livelihood on credibility, then you take your lumps. Just own up to it. Thats all Im saying.

THE SCORE POSTED IT AS DONE FIRST HONKEY TONK MAN

TSN 1..... Sportsnet 0. 630 Ched 1.....Team 1260 0.

Part of the challenge of instant media is balancing the desire to be the first to break news vs being "110%" sure. As an UBER fan who reads and posts here all the time; I took it upon myself to call everyone I knew and share the good news...

Shame on me. I guess I should have waited for a better source.

You gotta know that when people report it’s a done deal they are getting it from a reliable source, NOBODY would risk their reputation on something that they didn’t feel was concrete. Unfortunately, this is life in the 21st century. It's all about being first out of the gate.

@ SAM THE MAN: Seriously? You are serious about this? You think that Sportsnet, and TSN, who both have very very connected people, heard what Gregor said and ran with it? He may have said it was a done deal, but just like EVERY other sports place, they ALL said it was completed. The only person who did not say it was done, was Tencer.

its very clear that either way we are screwed.

At this point most of us are at the point where we dont want him, he wore out a welcome he hasnt even recieved yet.

chris who?

With that said, because of this 24 hour window, we are realistically removing ourselved from the bleak chance at other high profile guys out there. Waiting for heatley and the 10% chance the opts for edmonton means 3 things.

1. we still suck

2. F u calgary

3. the best avaiable ufa will be todd bertuzzi come thursday so it looks like kotalik will get his deal after all.

So if this deal is a bust what are the oilers going to do July 1st? My guess is nothing. This team is getting the cold shoulder all over the league. Listen to Jay Boumeester the other day. He was weary of coming here because of the rough ride other hometown boys got here. He doesnt need this crap. Year in and year out the media and fans pick one or two targets and dont let up on them. Is some of it warranted? Damn right it is. But these guys will make their millions here or elsewhere no matter what. Why not make it in a place without all the crap. I can picture Katz just pulling out his hair right now. Got the bucks to blow, just no ones interested. Another season of mediocrity coming up.

OMG Now you are playing the maryter, and saying the Gregor effed with the traded players lives by reporting that. Come on buddy they are a lot closer to the situation than anyone and I am pretty sure them or their agents knew something was up. Get off of your high horse buddy and give it up. Gregor does an excellent job.

As for your last point, I have no doubt in my mind Gregor will fess up in the next day or two and explain the confusion.

Until then get bent buddy we are tired of hearing from you.

Why would anyone even want Heatley in Edmonton to begin with? I understand he has a huge upside, he's a very gifted offensive player, but... he's also asked to be traded out of both teams he's played for. Edmonton is a tough city to play in, if you don't live up to expectations, you get crucified, he has thin skin and would be crying his way out of town the first time anyone suggested he wasn't playing with enough intensity and emotion as he should. I guarantee if he becomes an Oiler he won't still be in Edmonton when his contract is up.

Let's not forget that Gregor is NOT wrong yet. Heatley is still an Ottawa Senator right now, and he won't be by the end of the day tomorrow. There's nothing to fess up to until Heatley becomes a member of any other team not named the Oilers.

I kinda aggree with you Randy but in a different sense. If player X negotiates a NMC, then demands a trade, it only seems fair that the NMC be void. If player x isn't holding up his end of the bargin, then why should the guy paying the paycheck have to honor the NMC?

im a first time poster but am a frequent reader

okay the black and white of this whole situation is that somewhere along the lines something got lost in communication. Pointing fingers at who reported it wrong first isn't going to change where we stand.

I think we all learnt a big lesson tonight.... don't trust it until we here it from officially on a team web page or heaven forbid a team official ( don't get me wrong i love the internet but tonight has proven to be a gong show because of it. Clearly press conferences are the way to go). I don't think the oilers website even changed in the slightest tonight. I could be wrong but i frequently checked it tonight and didn't notice them even reporting that a deal was in the making let alone done.

It's the media's job to be the first to bring breaking news... Do you see anyone bragging to the " second " news leader? People make mistakes. And yeah they should " own up" to it, but we need to give them a chance to do so. Isn't it jumping the gun as well if we don't give the person who was wrong the opportunity to explain?

And these " sources" that everyone speaks of.... they might not always be 100% truthful or in the know as they think they are....

Whatever the case is it doesn't give anyone the right to come on here and flip out and call us all idiots for choosing to continue to a read and/ or read from a particular sporting news source.

No one is going to hold a radio to your ear and force you to listen to it if you don't want to. Or put your tv on that channel and hide your remote on you so you can't watch anything but that. If you have an opinion sure great come on here and share it with us. But be mature about it. Im seriously getting tired of coming on here and just seeing bickering matches about rather trivial things.

I know this was long but i just had to get this off my chest. Making up for lost "posting" time I guess.

Well I am going to take a page out of Heatley's book and sleep on it...

Even if this trade does go through now, I don't think that I am as happy as when it was first announced. The nagging little whispers about Heatley's character just got a bit louder. Obviously, Edmonton is not his first choice. If has to be forced to come here by the Sens playing hardball, it makes me have second thoughts about the whole thing.

@ Sam the Man While I agree some of your views are valid, the way you present them undermines the effectiveness of your argument and makes you look a little bit like a D-bag. Gregor is not some hack that routinely does this kind of thing.(ie Bruce Garrioch)
