Mike Comrie signs with the Oil?

Now we don't disagree with Robin Brownlee about anything - ever. It's not because we are scared of him, but more we are scared of the things he would do to us if we ever angered him. Sure we love a good drive by shooting as much the next guy, but we are far too pretty to have our face rearranged by “BC’s most dangerous man 1977.”
But a couple of hours ago we were messaged by a guy we know who said “now that you have got your head out of your (edited) and returned to writing on the Nation, you might be interested in discussing the fact that it would appear Daryl Katz has personally wired up a one year deal for 1.3 million with Mike Comrie.” Our eyes shot out of our head so fast that we put down the bag of cans we were scavanging in the river valley and ran straight home screaming at the top of our lungs, bloody eye sockets and all.
Now we aren’t here to start a database of falsehoods in our best Eklund imitation. We aren’t going to engage in idle speculation about how billionaires are rarer than foreign tourists in Edmonton and how Bill Comrie and Daryl Katz are probably friends on some level which could have led to a dialogue being opened with Dot Com's camp. We wouldn’t presume to weigh in on an unlikely rumor that could be a potential disaster this season.
We won’t pretend that we know better than Brownlee who told us back on August 19:
“While Comrie, now 29, is good enough to play in the Oilers top six and could be had for a discount rate, like maybe $2 million in a one-year contract, it’s a profoundly bad idea on so many levels I don’t even know where to start.”
However interesting re-signing Comrie would be in an attempt to exercise the “everyone hates Edmonton” demons that began when he left town back in 2003 under a cloud of rumors and cloak-and-daggery, we won’t lower ourselves onto the slippery slope of discussing this in great detail.
But you can.
Hahaha. Damn, Wanye. Where do you come up with this great comedy material?
*laughter slowly subsides and turns to tears*
Like I said before I would much prefer Comrie at 2 mill than Nilsson. *shrugs*
Such a bad call. WHY, WHY, WHY? This does not help.
Does that mean Hillary Duff will come to Edmonton and give me back all the hair clippings I mailed to her????
Does this mean that someone on the current roster would be leaving? ...that is, if it turns out to be true and not a drunken hallucination of Wanye Gretz.
Well whose next Theo Fluery?
Awesome. We don't have enough shrimpy players yet, let's get another smaller one. /sarcasm
YUCK.
Is Katz putting a muzzle on Syd Vicious (KLOWE), trying to overcome the taking back of Mikey's bonuses when we could of had Corey Perry on this team...... this is what happens when you let an issue become personal, as in this case, and presently, Gary Bettman having to explain himself to a bankruptcy judge.
Wow, Mike must be swallowing his pride as well, but working for Katz is possibly easier than EIG, Nicholls has not returned, his leave of absence was more of a goodbye.
According to Brownlee, Winter promised us the goods, and we never got them, with the truce being signed between Rexall Sports and Winter representing Mikey, this means one thing - the possibility of multiple Hillary Duff concerts. Almost as good as Hannah Montana.
(I fixed your formatting Deep Oil. Please note the difference between an enter key and a space bar. Love, Wanye)
So what does this mean if he signs?
I would take comrie back instantly. At this point he is one of the more skilled players out there and both he and the oilers probably would like a do over on his time here.
I imagine he would have liked to left on a better note and the oilers didn't need to start what led to 8 more years of bad luck.
I take him back, and let him say he wanted a do over. The oilers can say he was of interest 10 years ago and is so again.

`Duff Stuff will be available at all RX1 concessions!`
Comrie between Penner and Hemsky lets horcoff go between Pisani and Moreau thus solving the 3C problem.
Penner-Comrie-Hemsky O'Sullivan-Gagner-Cogliano Moreau-Horcoff-Pisani JFJ-Brule-Stortini
Is that really that bad?
@ jeff:
it means the oilers get even smaller up front
Well Paul better watch out we have a new anthem singer.

I think it would be great for all involved. A chance for a man who couldn't handle the pressure as a boy, having a do-over as a man. Erasing the bad feelings from the past. I'm in.

I have been trying to sell Horcoff with Moreau and Pisani as a shutdown line forever. Only problem is that is a lot of coin for Horcoff on that line.
@ Travis Dakin: And Lowe can say he got his two mil back as Comrie is playing for a lot less then his 4mil last year. Enter random smilie
jeff wrote:
Yeah but he's one of the best in the league and he would be used in a PP role and still gangbusters on the PK.
@ jeff:
Hear, Hear, $5.5mm cap hit for a third liner, this is equivalent to Penner math.
to quote my pal Jennifer...
"I'm doing all I can to personally block it....I'm thinking of flying to Sweden to bring in Tommy Salo for a sit down with tambs. I'll bring in Jason Smith if I have to as well"
I agree with this.

@ OvenChicken8:
well-played, sir... well-played :D
@ Travis Dakin: You really think he gets the PP time with Comrie here? Lets face it Horcoff should've had another 5 goals last year on the PP, but he lacks finish.
@ Travis Dakin: In 417 faceoffs last season, Mike Comrie went 41% on the dot. This would allow us to move Horc off the first line how?
jeff wrote:
I'm saying he wouldn't be the "prototypical thrid liner"
He'd be very valuable on the team and get plenty of ice time. I'm actually liking this the more I think about it. Kind of hoping it's true.
Honestly, I've always despised post-Oilers Comrie, and I'm not even sure why anymore. There's a lot we *think* we know about what happened, and I'm sure some (if not a lot) was fabricated by fans to tarnish Comrie. Really, it takes a lot for me to actually speak about Comrie in a not-so negative light. lol
So anyways, I think it would almost be a leap forward for the franchise if they somehow let bygones be bygones and made up with Comrie. I'm not so sure how he helps our team at all though. If he were 25 lbs heavier and 3 inches taller, maybe.
@ Ender the Dragon: Again, Horcoff would still be used in many situations. Not just the third line role.
@ Ender the Dragon: you can't tell me you don't like the idea of a Moreau, Horcoff, Pisani shut down line...
@ Racki:
Good points all around. If he does come back I would have to hive him props for coming back to face the mob at RX1. That wouldn't be easy to do.
Is this true or is it just a joke. Please tell me if its a joke or not...Im not smart and I will never figure it out on my own!

Wanye, who is this 'guy you know'? Was he drunk? I just don't see how anyone thinks this is a good idea. A fresh start for Comrie in Atlanta or Florida or something I could understand; sign the bargain deal and prove you can light it up as a scoring winger or something. This, though, bringing in a small center who can't win faceoffs to a team that's deep with centers who can't win faceoffs? Personal issues aside, this makes no sense.
@ OvenChicken8: I think it would balance the team more. Unfortunately there arent a lot of options. (I've read all of Willis' posts about available 3's and 4's)
I puked in my mouth when I read the headline
@ OvenChicken8: Seriously at this point I don't think Tambo is too concerned about salaries when it comes to lines. We just need to ice a team that is cap compliant and say piss on it when it comes to the players salaries.
WTF, this coul dbe bad bad bad. But then again, things we thought would be awesome turned out bad. Maybe reverse psychology and it turns out good??
I think the worst part would be the lost wiggle room in cap space.

That doesn't exactly sell the source too well.
Take the Oilers' lineup as it stands today. Add Comrie. Subtract Nilsson.
Are we now a better team, also with a slightly lower cap hit?
I say yes.
@ Travis Dakin:
I don't want to give the impression that I have Bob Mackenzie's phone number, but I'm not quoting one of my buddies from the bottle depot either.
Put it this way - I believe him.
Look at that picture of him with H-Duff, is it just me or is Mikey's head freaking MASSIVE!? Guys with big heads are usually powerful....
I should add that I say yes even though Mike Comrie might be my least-liked player in the league which has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that I worked for his dad many years ago and still wake up screaming in the night occasionally at the flashbacks so you can understand how difficult it is for me to endorse (albeit very hesitantly) this idea.

OK, so it rules out Eklund, gaining at least one credibility point from that fact alone. Still, Wanye, this is hard to take at face value. I mean, I get that you wouldn't take the time to write and post something this ludicrous if you didn't think the thing was anything but genuine. Still, if you told me that the Oil signed that big bad-ass dude whose picture was in your baseball write-up a little while ago, I'd have an easier time believing it. (What was his name again? . . .) [shuffles off to the research library]
Comrie has been a 30 goal scorer. With the right line mates *read: HEMSKY* he would put the puck in the net and he is slick as sh*t too. I think that would be a pretty line. I really think it would be great for the Oilers to have Horcoff concentrating on the defensive side. Him and Pisani would be the best shut down line in the league.

Wait, does this mean Hil Duff is going to be sporadically showing up at Rexall during the season?
