Reason twelve why we love Katz

“I ball till I fall, stunt till I drop, I’m off the showroom floor, not the used car lot” – Rapper 50 Cent

Daryl Katz must be the richest person in the world. While the rest of us are sitting around wondering about Robbie Williams reuniting with 90s boy band Take That, Kay-Z is assembling an empire that any red blooded Edmontonian would kill his entire neighbourhood to get his/her hands on.  Don’t believe us? Check out this article in the Globe and Mail today.

“Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz is close to realizing his dream of building a new hockey rink – for family and friends, not his NHL team. According to alert observers, Katz is having a rink constructed on his property, which just happens to overlook Edmonton’s North Saskatchewan River valley. The owner of the Rexall Pharmacy chain is believed to have had a house knocked down so he can hold hockey games complete with a panoramic view. Katz’s home has been estimated at 25,000 square feet and features five bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, an indoor pool and now a regulation-sized hockey rink. As one neighbour said to our alert observers, “When you have that kind of money, what else are you going to do with it?”

This news must come as a terrifying development to Tambellini and Company. One has to assume that Katz is planning to assemble a second Edmonton based hockey squadron to play in his new arena. Freed up from the constraints of the bloated contracts of the Oilers, the NHL salary cap ceiling and revenue sharing requirements, we can’t see it taking long until this new squad can easily whip the Oilers.

Knocking down other houses to build himself an outdoor arena. Proof positive that Daryl Katz does what any of us in the OilersNation would do, if we too had a couple billion kicking around in our checking account.

What's next? Solid gold toilets?? It boggles the mind.

Its really starting to sound like Sam Gagner is in the doghouse. We heard Quinn's mentions of "Morning Glory's" that I pointed out as Nilsson and other included the likes of Schremp & Gagner. Ryan Rishaug also stated yesterday on Just A Game that if it were up to Quinn, he may not even include Gagner in the top 14 based on camp.

And while we're on the twitter trail... ... from Andy Strickland...

I've been told D-man Dan Boyle will likely be named the next Captain of the San Jose Sharks. Veteran Rob Blake is also being considered. Brett Mclean has returned to Kelowna where he is mulling over a two-way offer from Tampa Bay. I'm told he is likely to decline the offer if he's not guaranteed to start the year with the Lightning. Mclean has received multiple offers to play in Europe. Tampa Bay placed D-man Matt Lashoff on waivers. Lashoff is a former first round pick of the Boston Bruins.

Lashoff should be claimed I would think.

@ RossCreek: Send him to the minors then. I did the capgeek thing and he has 5 games until he has to clear waivers.

If Gagner plays on line 3/4, he is going to get some soft minutes and hopefully have a good start to the season for once. It looks like they know they cant afford a crappy start to the season.

@ Ogden Brother Jr.: I think it would just be for a game or two to get his work level up and catch his attention. He has looked awful in camp so far.

But one MAP, Pisani, Moreau will play ahead of him based on their excellent play? I sure hope not.

@ RossCreek: I would rather have him in Brule's spot. Doesn't matter because it won't last. Just seems odd to single him out when 3/4 of the vets were just as bad.

@ Ogden Brother Jr.: Schremp has to stay on the roster all year, not likely there were ten or even two other teams with an open spot.

Maybe Sam was taking some lessons from Georges Laraque this summer and is aching to show off his new-found pugilistic skills.

Katz and Rexall allegedly owns the whole crescent, as PCL created anarchy and disruption to the neighborhood when the house was originally constructed. Comes with 24 hour black entourage SUV driveway security (Denali).

Just keeping up with President of Hockey Ops....Lowe already has a rink in his riverbend (Lee Fogolin)custom home on whitemud road, the neighbor has his digs up for sale for Katz pocket change..... http://www.sallymunro.com/details_new.php?ID=3295

There are quite a few teams that have open spots and such. Not every team goes with a 23 man roster. Heck we never use to have an extra's in practice unless there were injuries.
