Roster changes

Wanye
September 29 2009 11:19AM

ducks-in-a-row

While you have been waiting for lunch hour to arrive, Jason Gregor and Robin Brownlee have been hard at work down at RX1, gathering intel on the rebel forces.

And while you have been thinking about the delicious burritos and refreshing soft drinks soon to hit your lips, the Oilers have seemingly settled on line-up combinations that should take effect until 0:29 into the first period on Saturday night when they will be shuffled immediately.

Here is the lineup as of this morning:

Jacques — Horcoff — Hemsky O'Sullivan — Comrie — Stone Penner — Brule — Cogliano Moreau — Gagner — Stortini

The End of Schremp

The big news from Gregor this morning to the Nation via your ol' pal Wanye is that Reddox and Schremp have been placed on waivers. For those among us who have had a torrid love affair with #88 these past few years, you will be horrified to learn he is now a member of the New York Islanders.

Schremp was unable to deliver the goods in his first Training Camp under the new regime. Somewhere MacT is reading the news and laughing aloud. "Told you he wasn't NHL material," he is saying and stroking his fine mane of silver hair.

On behalf of Oilers fans we shall offer this morning prayer to the Gods of Hockey:

Dear Gods of Hockey, With your hockey hair and missing teeth, And your ability to "always give 110%" Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please don't let Rob Schremp to turn out to be a star in the NHL and make the Oilers look like idiots for letting him go.

Seriously.

Please.

I heard on the Team (either today or yesterday...damn short term memory) that Gags can be sent down to the minors without clearing waivers. 1. Is this true? 2. Can anyone forsee that happening?

If there is anybody that can prove himself I think Gagner can, he's got the work ethic and emotion you need. He'll be back in the top 3 soon. I wish more guys on the team would show a little more emotion like Sammy when they score goals.

@ EddieEdmonton:

I like the kid and I think he's going to be a heck on an NHLer, but he's been flat in camp. While Penner & Nilsson took a lot of heat for last season, I think if Gagner would have shown up for the 1st half of the season and if Hemsky won't have disappeared down the stretch, they would have made the playoffs.

@ Petr's Jofa: @ RossCreek:

I noted the urban dictionary thing at the time. The animal above is cut from the same cloth, and it's happened a few times before. Fortunately, none of them seem to have had the attention span to stick around on a long-term basis. I hope they figure out someday that you can be witty without being obscene. An if being obscene makes you happy, then I hope you find a new crowd to run with in the near future; you're not wanted here.

(I hope.)

Makes sense... if the Oiler players themselves are guessing what its like to play with new linemates for the actual game, then surely the opposition wouldn't have a clue what to expect.

And here it is from Dustin Nielson's twitter page... Quinn says Gagner to start year on 4th line.

Nielson's been on fire the last few days. We know your reading Dustin. Now we're waiting for your comments... ;-)

WTF is Gagner doing on the 4th line and Horcoff doing on the 1st line? You can't tell me that Horcoff earned that spot with his camp (he looked completely lost in the Vancouver game). While Gagner didn't look great, he didn't look nearly as bad as Horcoff.

I pine for the day when Moreau, Pisani, Staois & Horcoff take their overrated, overpaid crap to another team.

So is it just me or does, the coaching staff seem to not have the jollies for Ganer and the other kinds, nor do they think that the Vets deserve the "best cuts of meat" for lack of a better term

@ Jimmy: Ya, but I've been disappointed in him, I expected him to come in like in his first camp, and force the issue. He played 7 or 8 games in London (alums) against some Euro teams, just thought he'd be ahead of the curve....

They addressed this the other day. IIRC, they remain a cap hit until they're gone for 10 games.

It's always a cap hit, but with LTIR you can go over the cap by the amount of the player in question. Have to remember that they pro-rate the number as well, so although Pisani makes 2.5 we may only be able to go over the cap by 500k.

There's no way Gags goes anywhere after they spent so many marketing dollars on the guy, and brought him to the Eberle draft stage.

What a wacky line-up. How many goals does Stone get burned on before Quinn realizes Nilsson's value? I love the guy's heart, and he's fun to watch, but Stone is very borderline NHL material.
