NATION RADIO - AUGUST 13, 2011
NationRadio
August 15 2011 12:18AM

In what can only be described as 'epic' - Robin Brownlee makes his inaugural appearance on NationRadio this week. After 25 episodes of refusing to appear as a guest, the legend vaults right into the big chair taking the reins as the host, filling in for Lowetide who is on a well deserved vacation. And he flipped through his rolodex and booked some pretty spectacular guests.
Not one but TWO Edmonton Oilers are on the show this week as Sam Gagner and Ryan Whitney stop by to say hello. Newly re-signed Oilers play by play man Kevin Quinn comes by too, to put the rumours of a multi-million dollar contract to bed. Oh yeah, and Oilers Head Scout Stu MacGregor? He's here too.
This is some amazing NationRadio.

Oilers Head Scout Stu Macgregor stops by to discuss the Rookie Tournament, the numerous second year players on the Oilers roster next year, the RNH, and defensive prospects in the system.

Ever hear of Edmonton Oilers Centre Sam Gagner? Yeah, well he is on the show talking about his recovery from hand surgery during the summer, young players in the NHL and the impact of playing weight on performance.

Mr. Brownlee makes another first for NationRadio taking calls from Citizens of the Nation as depicted in the photo above.

Ryan Whitney plays defense for the Edmonton Oilers. Perhaps you have seen him on the television at some point. In any event he stops by the show to discuss his offseason rehab as well as the state of the Oilers defensive corps. He also looks ahead to the 2011-12 season.

Oilers play-by-play man Kevin Quinn stops by to discuss a myriad of topics with The Brownlee including his new contract with Sportsnet.
More conversation with Kevin Quinn brings the first episode of the Brownlee Era to a close.
I SWEAR TO EVERYTHING HOLY WANYE IF THESE SHOWS DON'T GO ON HERE SOONER I WILL FIND YOU AND GIVE YOU A SOUND THRASHING
BOO YOU SUCK!
they are all the segment 1! haha
Hope it's a start for your own show Brownlee,You did great
I'd make some smart-ass comment, but seeing Wanye busted his tail trying to get this up in record time I suppose I'll just check back tomorrow when the other segments get loaded for realz.
get a professional internetter in that goddamn place
Let's get this straight . . .
I do countless hours of show prep, round-up guests worth actually talking to, take two hours out of my life I'll never get back and manage not to blow anything up at TEAM studios and I get a ham sandwich for it.
ON fans wait two days, not two hours but two days, for the podcast and the people who deliver it, the same knuckleheads making UNTOLD $$$MILLIONS from my effort -- apparently spending most of their cut on barbituates and truckloads of tequila -- post the same segment multiple times. Staggering ineptitude. Mind-boggling incompetence.
Screwing up the links/files seems to be a tradition here. All hail Wanye :)
Screwing up the links/files seems to be a tradition here. All hail Wanye :)
in all fairness, Wanye struggles to get his shoes on the right feet, and still has not been able to graduate past the velcro loafers.
Missing Bingofuel yet Wanye?
I've already signed up for the service that physically mails me the transcription to my post office box. I get it 1 day sooner than anyone on the internet does.
OMG What an epic fail. Everything is fixed now.
*sighs*
There have not been 25 episodes of Nation Radio yet, have there. Is time passing that quickly.
I am feeling old.
I have to think Lowetide and Robin co-hosting on a regular basis would be one of the strongest Oilers related radio shows on the airwaves.
A great job Robin
Wanye is so freaking slow
Faster man, Faster*
*That's what she said
Not bad, Brownlee, not bad at all, well spoken, clear and with no verbal diarhea to cover the wide open spaces. By the way, if anyone's needed to run out to the Shuswap to do any further interviews with MBS, I work cheap!!
...I'm truly impressed with your mastery of the dulcet tones Master Robin...but dammit man, if you were willing to "refuse to be a guest" for that many episodes why didn't you hold out for the upcoming big money that is NATION TV ???...
@Robin Brownlee
You'd think Wanye would be a new keyboard with those millions. The Caps lock being stuck must be a pain.
And with an Average age of 83.25 between them they could reach over to the CHED listener demographic and pull some of the audience away from the dark side!*
*Cowers under desk
They'd have to interrupt the show with "breaking news" and Tony Roma's ribs ads every 15 minutes for that to happen.
Funny, I've pitched a similar idea to them both with little success. I also pitched twitter which went over about as well as me loading the radio shows.
Robin is probably just a bit shy. Maybe try bribing him with Dr Pepper and cigars. #MightWork
show was good, got better as it went along.
the Gagner interview in particular was really good, especially the discussion of playing weight. it seems to be taken for granted that more weight is better, but i'm not sure i've ever seen advanced analysis to back that up.
wouldn't mind seeing some stats or advanced stats sorted by weight, to get a better understanding of the overall trends.
Thanks for the update with Samwise. His rehab seemed to be going unreported and this seems really positive. Hopefully this is closer to the truth than Fraser's!
I enjoyed the show Robin, hopefully you become at ease with the operation side of radio and keep it rolling!
Well done broadcast Robin, great guests, great talk, great show.
What are you waiting for? Get your own show already, you have the chops..
After 1 week, Robin will have talked Taylor Hall through the boating exam #whatwouldhappenifrobinbrownleewasontwitter
Sounded a little nervous early, but it got much better as the show went on and the nerves wore off. Well done, sir! Good guests, well worth the listen.
Terrific interview with Ryan Whitney, very candid. Whits has quickly become one of my favourite Oilers since the trade. Let's hope he has a healthy and productive season next year.
Also, Brownlee, you should start next week's show with: "K-BILLY's 'Super Sounds of the Seventies Weekend' just keeps on coming with this little ditty. It reached up to 21 in May of 1970. The George Baker Selection: 'Little Green Bag'" Kidding aside, great first show.

Robin was quite good. Better than I had expected. Especially with the player interviews.
........But, Lowetide is waaaaaay better!! Sorry Robin.
Especially, considering that MBS was on the show and no Lowetide!!!!!!!! Come on!
I guess the 10th time loading this is a charm?
