King Ethan

The Los Angeles Kings continue to stock up on former Oiler left wingers. Word this aftenoon  that Ethan Moreau will sign this week on the left coast.

In what might be considered something of a shock the report linked to earlier suggests Ethan rifles will receive a $600,000 contract if he passes a physical on Monday. According to behind the net.ca, Moreau faced the toughest opposition among Blue Jacket forwards a year ago and had the poorest available help.

All of which led to a team worst CorsiRel of -24.4 which ranked him 396th out of 399 forwards in the entire league. That list is here, and it is interesting to note the veteran winger is ahead of only three enforcers in the entire league.

A curious summer for Dean Lombardi continues.

When Moreau fails his physical, who will Lombardi blame? Somehow Tambo must be involved.

If he passes the physical does that mean Lombardi can then buy him out right after signing him?

I have the feeling he really wants to buy out a contract of an ex-oiler for some reason...

Hope Chopper can turn it around, but things aren't looking good. He was a great foot soldier in Edmonton for a long time (and a terrible captain) and I'd love to see him win a cup on what is, now, a stacked team. Still, he's not a young man any more.

Unfortunately, no team is "stacked" with Ethan Moreau in the lineup.

Really don't get this move at all.

If Moreau fails the physical, you think Lombardi will raise a stink about him lying about what kind of condition he was in?

Absolutely.. he'll go after Howson and the CBJ staff next..

But somehow he'll try and make it Tambellini's fault!

Moreau must be a great guy in the dressing because he's lousy on the ice. That's only reason I can think of that teams keep employing him.

@David S

Well, I didn't mean it was stacked because of him. I wouldn't consider them Cup favourites or anything, but with their center/D depth you've got to like their chances.

Moreau is still a good addition in my books. He is physical, plays the PK, and can be a good guy in the room, despite what happened in EDM. I like this move; low risk.

Dean Lombardi must think it's 1989 when acquiring ex-Oilers would have been a good thing for the most part.

Moreau always has had that grit and determination that could make him a valuable 3rd-4th liner on any team...3+ years ago that is...his skating doesn't seem like it is what it once was..could that be part of the reason for his poor +/- ? ..not bein able to keep up with the modern NHL?

ps..next to LA-- Mike Comrie

He is physical(he takes a lot of dumb penalties), plays the PK (CBJ had the 25th ranked PK in the league and Moreau was one of the worst PKers on his team but yes he does play the PK), and can be a good guy in the room, (I don't have any specific data to refute this but wasn't he rumoured to be one of he problems in Edmonton when there was an apparent split between the older and younger players?)

This must be a Wanye list or something, since the top oiler on it it Ryan Smyth, followed closely by Eberle!

I thought we dropped him as one of our dressing room cancers... Oh well Lombardi is probably hunting for more Oiler compensation draft picks.

I think Mike Comrie would have been a better signing than Ethan Moreau. I'm glad we have Smyth and they have Moreau.

Well, that one really came out of left field. Lombardi's gonna sit Chopper on his knee and use him like a puppet to mouth nasty things about the Oil.

I heard that Moreau was just like Surray in the room and I think you can add Staios to that core. Mind you i have no basis for this just what I have heard around the grapevine.

I've heard some fairly greasy scuttlebut about Moreau too but that is unfounded and probably best left out-of-bounds where it belongs.

It is very unfortunate that his performance and stock fell so far before and after he was let go. He is a testament to the risks of staying too long at the party. I hope the return to the Oil by Ryan Smyth does't track the same way. Oiler fans can be cruel. Tambo doesn't have too much room left for more egg on his face.

The return of other Oilers to Edmonton has forged somewhat of a template for 'unhappy returns'...we'll see.

QFT...

Since the lockout of 2004, the game passed Ethan by. His style of game is just the kind of stuff they're wanting removed from the game.

Wierd. LA must have felt they weren't taking enough offensive zone penalties.
