Pick that jaw up off the floor yet? Feel like you just popped a viagra and could "go for hours" after hearing that little gem? Now I don't know what kind of track record Marty McSorley has with this kind of thing, but you just HAVE to KNOW that he has some connections inside the Oilers management group...right? So then, it wouldn't be completely out of the question to assume that he may know that Lowe/Tambellini plan to push hard on a Ryan Suter deal...would it?
Here's the quote from Marty on HockeyCentral Friday night:
"I really believe that Ryan Suter, yes, will get traded, and I believe the Philadelphia Flyers and the Edmonton Oilers are my two picks as to where he ends up"
So is this just another "hockey insider" talking...or is there some actual meat here? And what could the Oil possibly send Nashville's way? So many questions!

Um, I'm not really a contributor here at ON (I have some moderation privileges that include the ability to block idiots from posting comments). I am not a writer (last post here was probably 18 months ago?). This was not meant to be a HoF worthy "article". It was merely a post to show the video. Rather than post the video alone, I added some light & fluffy commentary that you've confused as an "article". I am not Gregor. I am not Willis, Lowetide, or Brownlee. And I am not pretending to be. All we have here is a jaw-dropping video that I saw late last night that I figured was discussion worthy with the fine folks here at ON (and yourself).
I wouldn't get too worked up about seeing many (or any) posts from me in the future. Who knows... maybe we won't see any of your lame comments anymore either.
You know who should rent Ryan Suter? A competitive team that has an elite goalie who could get hot and do some damage in the playoffs. Perhaps a team like... the Nashville Predators.

Just like Hemsky, Suter has earned the right to call his own shot July one. Why back up the truck and offload whatever assets when he may want no part in being here?
To take McSorleys comments and add a mention of Viagra and have you picked up your jaw yet, pullese. One column every six months for RCN...and this is all he's got? Give the audience here a little credit. Mr. Willis and his stats induced coma type entries have more merit than this.
It is proper to say thank you when pelham grenville pulls your arse from a fire fight like this. You should atleast thank him for the time he's taken to give you this lesson in literature. The fact that he did it for no charge must certainly warrant a show of appreciation.Please conform at your earliest convenience.
Sorry.......Not remotely convinced the Oilers could/can make this trade and sign Suter. Not buying what your selling! Not happening.

What a load of crap. Ef Suter, It's Weber or bust for Edmonton. If not, we're best to wait and grow our own. Suter is clearly plan B or C. Sell the farm and bring in Murray, as well as Grig or Yakupov. Epic fail but what can we expect from a flames fan...
I think if they did the deal the pick would have to be conditional. If he signs a long term contract it would likely become a 2nd. But I would make sure the picks are for 2013. I also think this is more than fair for an UFA

Go ahead and be angry at our situation, management, etc. but no need to spit at anyone around here. Unless McSorely didn't say it, then RossCreek is what you say he is.
While I would enjoy having a player like Suter added to the Oilers roster, ideally I would like it to happen via free agency and, as I have said here before, I would be very wary of Suter becoming Edmonton's version of Chicago's experience with Brian Campbell. Signing Suter to an outlandish contract to improve immediately may only, in the long run, cost the organization a number of supporting cast members. This is one area where I hope Tambellini's caution outweighs his penchant for big trades.

It's a possibility. Hemsky, a blue chip prospect, and this year's first rounder would likely do it, especially if the Oil are sliding. Suter would put a stop to that (I hope) but this would still be a lottery pick. Or perhaps next two first rounders if the Oilers don't want to part with this year's, but Nashville would probably hold back on that.
TBH though, I want Weber. No offense to Suter, but he strikes me as the junior partner.

There's no way!!!! The Oilers are NOT giving any type of 1st round pick to the Predators for a potential UFA this year or next year! Madness.
Possible UFA for UFA? Maybe a 3rd rounder plus maybe a prospect.

There is no way Nashville is going to get multiple first round picks for the rights to negotiate with Suter a little early, as he is reluctant to sign, on the other hand other teams need him for a lot more than just the future the Oilers want.

It would be great to get Suter in the off season as a UFA, which is when the Oilers should try it if they're going to at all. They wouldn't have to give up a thing to do that, and acquiring Suter now would just mess up their draft position.
Hemmer, Omark, and this year's 4-round pick, but only if Sutter agrees to a contract extension. Without a new contract, let some stupid GM's overpay for him.

When the kids get healthy and show the rest of the league what the future looks like, A player like Suter might consider Edmonton.
Wait... I'm trolling? Yes, indeed, I asked Marty if he could say this on TV just to pull a fast one on y'all. Just found it interesting that he had this to say and thought I'd share it. Do I think this is the likeliest scenario? Um, no. Did this get me thinking? Sure.
So, let's play along... seriously, what kind of deal would this have to be?
First, there is virtually no scenario that I could see this coming to fruition without an extension in hand (and I can't for the life of me figure out why Suter would sign one). Second, with an extension, Nashville's price tag goes up significantly. Third, I'd see a Suter extension exceeding that of Duncan Keith's 13 year, $72M deal ($81/12 yrs = $6.75 cap hit, 5th highest among d-men) Fourth, I think Philadelphia offers up James van Riemsdyk + so an Oilers offer would have to beat that.
As to why you do this now? Suter's an elite defenceman (top 10, IMO). Why wait til July when there's multiple bidders & less likelihood of getting a deal done?
Like I said, this is probably the longest of long shots, but I found Marty's comments quite interesting and worthy of being shared. No trolling.
I believe this would make perfect sense, trade for him before July 1st for negotiating rights a la the Flames w/ Bouwmeester. But trade a marginal player (leopold) and a pick (Flames traded their 3rd). My only concern would be Suter turning out to be Bouwmeester when his much better d-partner is not with him.
It would be monumentally dumb to trade him at the deadline for Hemsky + for him to just walk away July 1st.
Ryan Suter is going to decide his own destination on July 1. He didn't wait till this close to UFA status to sign it away to anybody before then.
So anything you might trade for him right now is equivalent to "p%#%^ into the wind".
Not a chance. A contender will pony up more than the Oilers should for a UFA in a season where we are heading for 30th fast.
The only time Tambellini should consider Suter as an option is prior to July 1st. A second round draft pick for his negotiating rights. If he doesn't want to sign, flip him elsewhere for another second rounder.

i too question this deal. The two biggest issues being 1) it makes no sense for the Oilers to do it now ,when they won't make the playoffs anyway. that being said, maybe that helps their case as then Nashville can keep him through the playoffs then trade him to the Oilers around the draft. and 2) hard to believe a high end free agent like him would sign with the Oilers. Especially since he is an American.
That being said, in defence of the rumour,,,1) Nashville could make a deal with Edmonton before the trade deadline but not consummate it until June thus giving them a better chance to make the playoffs 2) The Oilers have no problem cap wise with Whitney, Barker and Sutton at half price next season that frees up $7 million 3) it is within the realm of possibility that he sees the Oilers elite forwards (especially if they add Grigorenko) and they can convince him they will improve the bottom 6 via trade/free agency (easy enough to do) and with him and any one of Klefbom, Marincin or Musil they would have a decent top 4 along with Gilbert and Smid.

I'm not convinced an extension automatically ups the price all that much. It does if he extends with Nashville on his own, but not if Nashville allows team to negotiate a new deal with him to do a sign and trade NBA style.
It may allow a slightly better price because one or two more teams may join the bidding, but in the end Nashville is still losing him at the end of the season and the teams making offers still know this.
I have absolutely no faith that Tambellini could pull off the acquisition of Ryan Suter without giving up this year's lottery pick, and for me that would be a mistake.

I dunno. If Nashville feels they can't re-sign him, they're obligated to take the best deal.
Philly might be willing to trade Van Riemsdyk which, to your point, would make the price tag higher than I would be willing to bear.
But the main issue here might just be money. We have (or will have) plenty of cap space. The Flyers less so. If Suter demands a salary in excess of $7M annually, the Oilers are actually one of the few teams that can fit him into our structure.
The price might even actually be bearable.
