OILERS BEAT COLUMBUS 145-0

Wanye
November 19 2013 10:20PM

If you are new to the Nation this is how we have celebrated landslide victories since 2007. Give a listen on maximum volume and enjoy having this song in your brain banana for longer than you will care to admit.

There are several things to be pumped beyond measure about tonight.

THING ONE - POINT NIGHT

No fewer than 11 players had points for the Mighty Oilers tonite including Perron who led the way with 4. That's unreal.

THING TWO - DUBNYK

This guy here got a shutout with Bryz sitting calmly on the bench. Talk about pressure. Good on you DD.

THING THREE - SMYTTY

Smyth had 3 points! THREE NATION! WHAT A HERO WHO CARES IF PERRON REFERRED TO HIM AS OLD IN THE SECOND INTERMISSION AHAHAHAHAHAH

*wipes eyes*

We all needed this. The Oilers needed this. It is a rare shaft of heavenly light in an unhealthily dark situation so far this year. So listen to ghost ride the whip. Call friends you haven't talked to in years. Suddenly the DJ Suitcase ugly sweater Christmas party on Friday is going to be a real shindig. Buy your tickets here in support of the ICCP.

We will personally buy you a bucket of Jack Daniels and we can discuss the win for ever and ever amen.

In the meantime let's shower the comment section with unreasonable optimism and enjoy every minute of it,.

Tim Thomas actually looked good the last two games for FLA now that he's over his injury... Should actually be a close game.

This game was good though. Combination of horrible play by CBJ and solid play by all the oilers.

Bryz must be using his Jedi mind tricks.

Really, San jose, who just got drubbed by Chicago, is better? Same with that walking bunch of pubes in STL? And Anaheim is propped up by high shooting percentages

Hawks had one bad game last night but are still reigning cup champs and are the top team in the standings and somehow aren't the best?

You really think the oil management is a good organization - comparable to the red wings? Really?

It was nice to see the oil drub the CBJ yet again (in the last seven they have avg 5gpg). It's about time people who paid cold hard cash for tickets get their money's worth for a change.

But many oil fans embarrass themselves with their glee at the oil getting their third win in regulation in 23 game played. Do you think Yankee fans would be as pleased? Or red wings fans? Where's your self-respect?

Maybe quit trying to be such a d!ck and pay attention to what you are reading. That's not what is being said at all.

You are more embarassing by polluting these forums with your ENDLESS negativity.

Nobody here is stating we are going to win the Cup but in a season that has sucked as bad as it has, let's try and enjoy one of the few moments of positivity while it's here.

Didn't you ever learn in English class how to find the underlying message in any given piece of writing? He's not saying the Oilers are the Red Wings, he's just saying that all teams have their struggles, so before we jump to conclusions we should see how this season pans out.

I've been up there with the worst of you Debbie Downers of late, like DSF and Serious Gord. Honestly though, do we need to crap on them after a 7-0 victory?

I know the playoffs are already out of reach.

I know the team has serious holes that need to be addressed.

But can't we just savor a long overdue domination of another team?

I was in the Yak's celebration night. The most frustrating game to watch for 59 minutes, not because of the players, but the refs. Have to say Yak and Gagner saved the night so I slept in a good mood.

I wish I was in last night's game instead of the Dallas game last Tuesday. Not saying the Oilers were terrible in the Dallas game, but it is never fun that we got shutout. Wish the Oilers could have move a goal or 2 from last night's game to the Dallas game so I had something to celebrate even we lost.

Big win. Offensive outburst can often get a team rolling.

The Oilers were always going to start slow this year but I think the biggest factor in the Oiler's face plant over the first 20 games was pressure.

Everyone, including Dubnyk, knows this year is his shot to prove what he's got and he cracked under the pressure.

Eberle, Hall and Nuge got big contracts and there was chatter about Hall and Eberle at the Olympics. Most players struggle after signing their first big contract. They start thinking they have to do more. And when it doesn't come the pressure mounts.

Especially with 19-21 y/o. They are literally kids with a bunch of mouth-breathing rednecks screaming at them or insulting them on twitter.

The irony being most of the people flaming the kids completely crack and curl up in the fetal position when the pressure is on in their own lives.

Last night's game doesn't change much in the standings. Playoffs are still lost this year. The roster changes MacT needs to make still need to be made. But hopefully the monkey is off their back and they have some confidence back.

10 games at a time. Always above 0.500 and build some momentum going forward.

Who does the stats? How do you out shoot the opponent more than 2-1, win 7-0 and have 15 GVA and only 6 TKA. And that doesn't count the 2 GVA I saw Petry make that didn't get counted.

p.s. Columbus showed 5 GVA.

The Oil aren't making the playoffs, Plain and simple.. BUT that doesnt mean they can't improve!

'11 = 74 pts
'12 = 77 pts (Rounded up due to 82 game projection)
'13 = This year

(Can't remember if we call this season '13 or '14).

Anyway, ending the season with 80-82 points (Basically .500) would be a good steady improvement. We need to come up with 68 points in 59 games to break even on the season.

32-23-4
30-21-8
28-19-12

Those aren't unreasonable or unattainable if the team gets their Chit together.

What a difference...........every player made plays and received passes. The biggest difference is everyone playsed a team game with consistent puck support.

I'm not sure what has changed but this was a totally different team. I did notice that everyone seems to be shooting from any angle in stead of the pretty passing plays that have plagued us for so long.

Cant wait for the next game to see if this is just a fluke or a substantive change in the Oilers game.

Can't believe i passed up a free ticket to that game cause i'm fat, old and lazy on cold nights. Was the most fun i've had watching a game in a long time.

Did anyone else notice that Belov and N. Shultz didn't want anything to do with th puck? They both held the offinsive blue line well, especially Belov, but both of them could not wait to get rid of the puck, couldn't get it off thier stick fast enough, and it almost bit them. Belov looked lost in the D-Zone, and couldn't decide what to do with the puck.

Hope it gets addressed on Wednesday and fixed for Thursday. 3 in a row would feel pretty good.
