OILERS BEAT COLUMBUS 145-0

November 19 2013 10:20PM

If you are new to the Nation this is how we have celebrated landslide victories since 2007. Give a listen on maximum volume and enjoy having this song in your brain banana for longer than you will care to admit.

There are several things to be pumped beyond measure about tonight.

THING ONE - POINT NIGHT

No fewer than 11 players had points for the Mighty Oilers tonite including Perron who led the way with 4. That's unreal.

THING TWO - DUBNYK

This guy here got a shutout with Bryz sitting calmly on the bench. Talk about pressure. Good on you DD.

THING THREE - SMYTTY

Smyth had 3 points! THREE NATION! WHAT A HERO WHO CARES IF PERRON REFERRED TO HIM AS OLD IN THE SECOND INTERMISSION AHAHAHAHAHAH

*wipes eyes*

We all needed this. The Oilers needed this. It is a rare shaft of heavenly light in an unhealthily dark situation so far this year. So listen to ghost ride the whip. Call friends you haven't talked to in years. Suddenly the DJ Suitcase ugly sweater Christmas party on Friday is going to be a real shindig. Buy your tickets here in support of the ICCP.

We will personally buy you a bucket of Jack Daniels and we can discuss the win for ever and ever amen.

In the meantime let's shower the comment section with unreasonable optimism and enjoy every minute of it,.

2 game winning streak. Love it. All lines going tonight, D played great and goalie was solid when called upon. Perfect game, made the Blue Jackets look some kind of Jr team. Who is more crazy? Who is more weird? Bryzgalov pre-game speeches spurring Dubbie to victory?

Tim Thomas actually looked good the last two games for FLA now that he's over his injury... Should actually be a close game.

This game was good though. Combination of horrible play by CBJ and solid play by all the oilers.

Bryz must be using his Jedi mind tricks.

It was nice to see the oil drub the CBJ yet again (in the last seven they have avg 5gpg). It's about time people who paid cold hard cash for tickets get their money's worth for a change.

But many oil fans embarrass themselves with their glee at the oil getting their third win in regulation in 23 game played. Do you think Yankee fans would be as pleased? Or red wings fans? Where's your self-respect?

Meanwhile MacT and Klowe help Katz count and fold his money...

Didn't you ever learn in English class how to find the underlying message in any given piece of writing? He's not saying the Oilers are the Red Wings, he's just saying that all teams have their struggles, so before we jump to conclusions we should see how this season pans out.

DSF practices a kind of idiosyncatic "everybody's a winner (except Oilers)" approach to life.

If you posted his exact posts on a forum for any other NHL team, fans would think he was some kind of smothering mommy blogger cooing away bruises, but with a child's strange and reactionary hatred for the Oilers.

Sum it up, any team but Oilers.

I was in the Yak's celebration night. The most frustrating game to watch for 59 minutes, not because of the players, but the refs. Have to say Yak and Gagner saved the night so I slept in a good mood.

I wish I was in last night's game instead of the Dallas game last Tuesday. Not saying the Oilers were terrible in the Dallas game, but it is never fun that we got shutout. Wish the Oilers could have move a goal or 2 from last night's game to the Dallas game so I had something to celebrate even we lost.

It was nice seeing the Oilers dominate. Watching Yakupov play up to his potential and dominate. Watching Perron pop 2 goals in and even Smytty batting one out of the air.

We have the opportunity to beat Florida, Chicago (unlikely), Nashville and Columbus to continue the upswing.

However, the truth of the matter is, we are still a bad team. Changes still need to be made to the top 6, the top 4 and maybe goaltending.

We still need Lowe gone. Forever.

I woke up this morning with a big smile on my face. It's so much better to read all the write ups after the Oilers dominate.

Anyone remember the dude who would always write "OILERS DOMINATION TO FOLLOW" after all his posts? It was kind of irritating. Anyways, I thought of him last night.

I can't help but hope that this is the "turning of the corner" that makes this season bearable to watch.

Great win tonight but I do remember these are rare wins and far too Inbetween. Mac T needs a winning streak with players values going and needs to pull the trigger and the "bold" move. We need to restructure this team on the go and not wait until the off-season. The oilers have elements that are needed for a great club but they need a few key pieces. The Oilers might be out of the race but they need to send the rest of the league and the fanbase that they have something special here or not. They need to do that and that is their only choice because the fanbase are about to lose their S**ts. They cannot justify another full on rebuild or even the word "rebuild" for another 100 years.

It's Columbus without Gaborik and Horton so they should win. Still though, I'm still flabergasted that I saw Yakupov dump the puck in deep on the rush. Doing lots of little things right, so expect a lot more wins on the horizon.

What a difference...........every player made plays and received passes. The biggest difference is everyone playsed a team game with consistent puck support.

I'm not sure what has changed but this was a totally different team. I did notice that everyone seems to be shooting from any angle in stead of the pretty passing plays that have plagued us for so long.

Cant wait for the next game to see if this is just a fluke or a substantive change in the Oilers game.

Actually that's not at all what I said.

What I was pointing out is that even a well run organization....such as the Red Wings....who have lost 7 in a row....can struggle too.

And it's ok for people to enjoy seeing their team play better and winning.

Have to admit, Phil surprises me. A good case why you DON'T give up on high draft choices. Even the twins were average til mid twenties.

Lowe gets too much hype about the challenges. Agreed though that the failure axe needs swing his way next.

Note that the team The Oilers just shellacked was put together by current Oilers VP of Hockey operation, Mr. Howsend.

I'm betting that 6-Rings forces MacT to buy out Bryz-Lightyear... Or trade him to Van for a draft pick.

And then Mr Kattz pulls some political strings and has the city lay out the cup parade route.

And then we lose another 6 straight and they trade one of the young guns for Bryz.

Bah!

I'll take the win I guess.

@Hockey Problems

I don't understand all of the hate for Rishaug? Sure I didn't like some of the questions he asked Bryzgalof, but I'm glad someone in the Edmonton sports media is being a little critical of our sports teams. For the last 10 seasons the Eskimos and Oilers have gotten off way too easy.

The players need to be accountable for there actions. It doesn't help the organization when all of the beat reporters are pumping their tires like Bob Stauffer.

As to Yakopov I think the entire saga was good for the kid. He's living in a new country and he's got a lot to learn about pro sports. Yak city created his whole drama and has come out of it a better man.

The point is that when someone says "even well run organizations struggle at times" (the comment you quoted) in reference to the Wings' 5 game losing streak, that is not comparing them to the Oilers at all (which you accused them of).

In fact, it is reinforcing that there is a wide degree of difference between the two teams. One is generally perceived as much better than the other.

And just to be clear, I don't think anyone on here is suggesting the Oilers are the better of the two teams.

...even though they may have been last night. And by "last night", I mean last night.

Nobody in their right mind believes that is going to happen. This season is over. The conclusion has not only been jumped to. It has been picked up, taken home and put to bed. It's over.

Actually right now the 8th seed in the West is on pace for 110 points...so even more impossible! Yay!

Not making the playoffs does not equal the season is over. There are still a lot of potential positives that can happen. This season can still be a stepping stone to the playoffs next year (which if it continues the way the first 22 games have it wouldn't be).

As a fan that's what we should be hoping for and that's how we should be supporting our team. It's fine to be displeased with how things have gone but I still want to support the team in the hopes that they will improve.
