GDB 25.0: HAWKS

The Oilers losing 6-0 to Nashville on Friday night is not helping the powder keg of emotion that is the OilersNation right now. Twitter reads terribly with demands for everyone that collects a cheque from Kay-Z being immediately dismissed. The comments section here at the site stretches to infinity as people vent their rage and frustration with a team that looks to be writing off another year of NHL hockey.

Incredibly the only people not showing any rage or heart at this moment are the Oilers themselves - which has a lot to do with explaining why we are all in this mess in the first place.

MIKE BROWN SEEMS NICE

Lost in all of this losing has been the play of the newest Oiler Mike Brown. Now sure there are some gaps in his game - particularly at 5 on 5 - but it has also been refreshing to see someone in an Oilers jersey finishing checks (say what!?) standing up for his team mates (how is this possible) and getting the jackhammer going in spectacular fashion (oh baby.)

Assuming the Oilers ever figure out a way to win (they will) and start playing with some emotion (perish the thought) Mike Brown could well end up being a fan favourite in E-town among fans who are currently displaying roughly 150x the heart of many of their beloved Oilers.

Good on you Mike Brown. Beat someone else down if you can find the chance tonight and give us all a good cheer will you?

Thanks.

LINES

The Oilers are set to see the return of Horcoff, Hartikainen and Hemsky tonight. If the object of professional hockey was to dress the greatest number of players whose names begin with the letter H the Oilers would be heavy favourites to win tonight's match against the Hawks.

Sadly winning a hockey game has something to do with goal differentials at the end of 90 minutes of play or something. So the Oil will be forced to try and do that, instead of standing pat and letting the Hs speak for themselves. Chicago just ended an insane 24 game streak without a loss in regulation so you know they will be ready to play.

Per the Oilers twitter about 23 seconds before puck drop

PREDICTIONS

GAME DAY PREDICTION: The Oilers love to mess with our heads and just when you count them out they usually play out of their minds and draw us back in. Tonight will be one of those nights and they will win 4-3 forcing approximately 140,000 Oilers fans on twitter to reevaluate their entire line of thinking.

OBVIOUS GAME DAY PREDICTION: Mike Brown will fight someone and we will be happy, shadow boxing along the entire bout from the squalor of Wanye Manor.

NOT-SO-OBVIOUS GAME DAY PREDICTION:  Minutes into the game GM Steve Tambellini will burst into the Oilers section of the press box. "I have finished my assessment of the team" he will breathlessly announce to all within earshot. "I can now conclude with great certainty the Oilers made a horrible mistake hiring me to be in charge."

He will receive a standing ovation from the entire world.

It was articles like this that started a media storm that led to something changing in Buffalo. Darcy R. is probably next on the block... But the speculation is that Pegulia didn't like being called out and put Regheir on notice, who did wall he really can do as a dead man walking and fired his coach.

http://blogs.buffalonews.com/sabres/2013/02/its-time-for-terry-to-talk-today.html?ref=brp

** We need our media to start calling out Katz & KLowe. None of the media in this town have any balls (at least not any main stream media types), or they are shills paid by the team (Tencer and Propoganda Minister Stauffer)

What about Terry Jones and Jim Matheson. Old school guys with clout. I assume they don't want to get permanently shut out by the Oilers organization. But I'd like to see an Edmonton Journal front page article calling out Katz for this perpetually suckery coupled with insanely high ticket prices and kazillion dolloar tax payer funded rinks.

Winning Teams are built by LEADERS, not by employees who "work" for the paycheck! It may be quite repetitive but it is one more voice of someone with a very long involvement with the Oilers organization. This is not an attack on anyone, this is the common sense of any Canadian who ever laced a pair of skates on: Mr.Tambellini is not a leader! He simply does not posses the qualities necessary to assert and manage. If he did have them, no matter what the above him had to say, he would assert himself. He never did. He seems to simply have the job to always "explain" something and "plan" fruitless moves... If he ever makes a move he actually initiated! Period. Mr. Lowe, respected and appreciated as a player, simply is not executive material. He never was, he never will be. He was just a player with heart! He ruined his good image with the fans when he hung on to a job for the paycheck he does not earn - he collects it as a pension for "past services" As for Mr. Krueger, he tries to teach defense to his offensive players... Instead of letting them go out there and score goals whatever way they can and build a defense with defenders... He is not going to take this team anywhere with the constant shuffling and re-shuffling... Decide on lines! Let them play together! Let them LOSE together or win together.... Let them learn to be UNITS! They will LEARN together or they will "die" together! Sather built a TEAM not just because of the talents those boys possessed but because he let them jell between them and become the guys who truly played for each-other! Mr. Katz, PLEASE, do us a favor at last (frankly you will be serving your own best interest too): Fire your current executives, make Mr. Kruger the defense coach, bring a LEADER as a head coach and let the boys play to their strengths! Us, long-suffering fans, will support that type of effort! A bit of the "same-old" has people following the Oilers for the last 35 years actually turning the TV off or walking away half way from the Arena. Loose the losers you pay... So we all can hope to win some respect back!

OGDP - 6-1 Hawks

The Oilers get blown out; Dubnyk lets another butter soft goal in.

Gagner and Hemsky turn the puck over at least 15 times at the Black Hawks blue line.

Whitney gets caught out of position only a half dozen times.

Paajarvi keeps shooting from the perimeter then follows up to the net making it look like he goes to the net.

Hartikinen puts his head down and never looks up again for the rest of the shift.

Schultz Sr is on for another 3 goals

Petry refuses to move the puck quick enough then get stapled to the boards causing another turnover.

Smid try’s in vain to block the shot but Dubnyk lets it in anyways then raises his arms like he was screened.

Yakupov stays right beside the point man because he’s too afraid to move in his own zone.

Thats about as obvious as I got.

Lindy Ruff. Nuff said. Made the Sabres tough to play with limited talent and always got the best out of them no matter what they brought to the table. Excel at what you do best.

Having urged on my previous post the "dismantling" part of my suggestions, I would be amiss not to post the "next step", that being:

Mr. Katz, do NOT bring in any more "yes" men! Bring MEN who SHALL make and stand by their OWN decisions. BE their own men!

Mr. Katz, I knew you when you were not a billionaire - just when you were practicing law, and I know that you DO know all this since those days! I wonder if the billions have changed your excellent thinking of those days as an Oiler fan... Obviously us who stayed behind on the cash deposits department do not know something you do.... But we know good hockey and honest efforts when we see them...

Amazing what energy does. No wonder why the oil always lose, they usually show up flat like the Hawks and the other team usually plays them hard just like what the oil are doing. Effort is an amazing thing.

Does any Oiler suck more than Dubnyk right now?

In a league where a goal a game is the margin he has given a soft one - and two brutal ones in each of his last 5 starts.

This is actually not good for the Oilers. I fear the win will only pacify the situation and be a barrier to change. Besides, the Oil always play the Hawks well: the Hawks have the fewest hits thrown in the league.

Just wait until the Oil play the Ducks, it'll be a blood bath.

Side note: the Dubnyk injury is on Krueger. Why in the world would your PP defencemen be Yak and Whitney when Toews and Hossa are the forwards on the Hawks PK?

Brutal. You can't ignore the competition Kruegs, line matching exists for a very good reason.

Lots of positives from this game. Got the win against a very good team. Scored a bunch. Played with hustle. Horcs showed real leadership. He calling the team meeting, played well, got points, got in a scrum after a whistle. That gives me the most hope.
