Celebrating_hockey_gold_in_Vancouver

We're just a few hours away from the Olympic Gold Medal game, Canada versus Sweden in deepest Russia. The Canadians and the Swedes have been on a collision course for the entire tournament. The earthquake hits 5am Edmonton time. GO CANADA GO!

564px-Roberto_Luongo_2010_flag

Four years ago in Vancouver it was Sid the Kid and now we're waiting for someone to man up and deliver destiny for the Canadians. Is our nation the dominant one during the NHL-at-Olympics era? We're about to find out.

LINEUP

Kunitz-Crosby-Bergeron
Benn-Getzlaf-Perry
Marleau-Toews-Carter
Sharp-Duchene-Nash
St.Louis

Keith-Weber

Vlasic-Doughty

Bouwmeester-Pietrangelo

Hamhuis

Price

Canada's hockey story will see another chapter written before daylight in our town. This is a new team—gone is Sakic, gone is Iginla, gone is Niedermayer, gone is Brodeur. This is the team of Toews, of Crosby, of Bergeron and Weber and Doughty and increasingly of Price.

STAYING UP MUSIC!

If you're staying up all night to watch the game, I'd suggest some kick ass rock and roll to keep you rolling. Since our American friends aren't likely in the mood, perhaps we can borrow some of their best! Love this song, and it feels like summer too!

WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?

canada flag1

"Win today and we walk together forever"  (Fred Shero)

There was a time in this fair land when the railroad did not run. We were not bound by rail or air or blacktop or radio or television. The news came monthly instead of instantly. We were bound together by the things we had in common, coast to coast—and the song remains the same.

We are the land of the ice and snow, we are winter, we are Canada. It's our game, at the lowest levels and, today, at the very highest.

God bless you, men. We are with you and we believe in you. Giants walk among us.

I hope they can pull out a win, but Sweden will be no pushover. Funny conversation with my 9yr. old hockey-playing daughter this am..." Dad, when is the Silver medal game?" I laughed, "Kiddo, unfortunately nobody wins a Silver medal." The innocence of youth....

Jessica makes me want to pass the time until 5am with episodes of Top Gear!

GDP: Canada 3, Sweden 1 OGDP: Doughty scores the first goal NSOGDP: Upon seeing the Canadians win gold, the USA team has a summit to figure out where they should go next. The summit is called the Heart and Intensity Summit, but both words are misspelled. Bobby Ryan was seen snickering.

Just wondering if there will be any backlash to Tortorella's comments about cheering for Sweden in this game.

Probably won't see it this year, but if the Canucks don't make the playoffs and get off to rough start next year, expect the daggers to be drawn. The anti-Canadian stance will be one of the first things that will be used as ammunition to get Torts fired.

I was gonna get some Z's before the game but too excited. Think I will rewatch the Canada USA game to get more jacked and then the Finland USA game for comic relief and then its............LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE

GDP - Canada wins 4-2 and out shoots Sweden 37-24

OGDP - Canadian forwards beat down the Sweden defense in the cycle and the Getzlaf/Perry/Benn line will score 2 goals because of it

NSOGDP - The USA hockey team fly home early with their tail between their legs and the only thing on TV is the gold medal game and when Canada wins, Kesler punches the seat in front of him and breaks his hand and is out for the season

First you get me going again on that 71' classic SWAY off of Sticky Fingers and now JESSICA!!! I tip my hat to you LT. You could DJ any wedding if it were up to me. Might be because I'm a 73' birth year and biased, but something's epic about song tracks from 70' through 74'. By 7:30 am we might well have to pay homage to Danko, Richard, Garth, and Robbie while we're at it..."when I paint my Masterpiece" seems like it might be the most appropriate? When I gaze down our lineup and especially the Blue, I'm reminded of Dire Straits "The Man's too Big, The Man's too strong". It's truly a thing of beauty this crew assembled. Total buy in coupled with ridiculous puck movers and skating. And although it will surely rouse some trashes, I'd be remiss not to add the much maligned "grit" to their description. Guys that have been through the wars, bloodied but having prevailed nonetheless. Today is going to be a very good day. On behalf of all your fans LT, please keep us rockin' Go Canada Go

The best defense is to keep the puck on the offensive zone, Canada has relentless forecheck that give Swedes no chance to set up any play. Swedes were just tired after have to play defense for such a long period of time that they have to change the line every time that they finally get the puck out of their own zone.

Of course, one great thing is that Canadian talent pool is so deep that they can assemble any kind of team that they want. Most of the other nations do not have the same luxury to do so. Russia is the only other nation matching Canada talent-wide but they need to learn how to play a team game first.

Russia probably matches or exceeds Canada in offence. But they don't have the defense. Same with USA. They have offense and better goalies . Even tho I think they should of went with miller. Canada's defense is just too dominant

I do believe most of the Oil fan base realize that our "Star Players" were not good enough to make the incredible star studded Team Canada. I am hoping like hell that the Oil players watched these games and took something away from them.

There is not a NHL team that comes close to what Team Canada was in this Olympics. Seeing all of this talent on one team is very impressive and you can bet every other country saw the same thing we fans saw, a team of the best players in the league and a team the played as a team and not as individuals with egos that are unmanageable.

Excellent win for our country and showcased why hockey is Canada!

Now back to reality, the Mighty Oil are in need of.........

Yes we get it. In fours from now he will be there in a prominent role if the NHL participates. Can we get back to celebrating now or do you have anymore negatives to key on? The best team I have ever seen play. Babcocks system was a perfect design for this group. We'll done Canada!!
