We often refer to the McDavid effect, and how the young phenom attracts NHL free agents to the city like no other. Everybody wants to play with Connor. Everybody knows that because of him, the Oilers will have some serious Stanley Cup potential in the upcoming years. One player, in particular, was Milan Lucic. But Connor McDavid wasn't the ONLY reason that Milan Lucic chose to sign in Edmonton. A big, shiny, new building had a little something to do with his decision, and that building isn't stopping with Lucic. Rogers Place will be the reason Edmonton lands a number of upcoming sporting events as well.

McDavid And Nuge Return To Training Camp, Edmonton Rejoices

They're back! Although the wonderous tournament that was the World Cup is over for Connor McDavid and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, their NHL seasons are just beginning. They went, they played, they won a couple, lost one, and came back home to tell the tale. Fortunately for these two players, they arrived home injury free, unlike a few NHLers that fell victim to the World Cup's evil injury bug. Both Leon Draisaitl and Andrej Sekera, however, have somehow made it to the finals with Team Europe, and are currently in the middle of their best-of-three finale series against Canada.

Eric Gryba and the Rest of the Oiler PTOs

The Oilers invited Eric Gryba to a professional tryout on September 2nd. Nearly three weeks later, Gryba finally accepted the offer, and will now be attending the Oilers training camp come Thursday. Gryba's grit and toughness make him an excellent depth defenceman, and would very much help the Oilers this season. Along with Gryba, the Oilers have signed six other players to PTO contracts this summer. Let's take a look at the options.

Kris Russell, a 29-year-old, left-handed defenceman has been patiently waiting all summer for his phone to ring. No one has seemed to show any interest for him, until now. Lo and behold, that team may be the Oilers and negotiations appear to be heating up.
