When I retired from hockey I knew I wanted to spend more time with my family, but I also loved the sport of hockey. I had opportunities to make coaching hockey my next career, and I was very interested. The idea of working with a group of players to build them up, and make them better, was something that really appealed to me. There were so many coaches that spent time with me throughout the years and I felt like I could help out the next generation.

Stanley Cup Finals Musings

As a player I always enjoyed analyzing the way both Stanley Cup Final teams were built. It was a good way to compare my own team to the elite squads in the league and to see how far (or close) we were to real success. There were springs where I felt my team wasn't too many pieces away. There were other springs where I just stopped the process entirely.

Missed Opportunity

Tyler Pitlick has been granted the skills needed to play in the NHL for a long time. He can skate, shoot and has size. Those three traits have translated into ten year NHL careers for many players. Unfortunately there have also been many players with those three traits that have had a cup of coffee in the NHL. Pitlick needs to ensure this isn't just a cup of coffee visit.

Losing and the long walk through hell

Saturday night after the Oilers lost to the Blackhawks, I witnessed an event that unfortunately we have seen here too often and one that I have been on the receiving end of. Oilers fans loudly booed the players the last minute of the game and it did not stop there.
