While I admire those churning out KHL reports, AHL updates and even season point projections (without any of us having the first clue if we'll have an NHL season or how many games it'll be), I don't see a single issue I can hang a whole item on, so I won't even try.

Edmonton Oilers forward Ben Eager, who some critics might suggest barely laid a hand on anybody during the 2011-12 season out on the ice, is facing assault charges in the wake of an altercation in a bar early Saturday morning.

The timing couldn’t be much worse, seeing as Gary Bettman already has a big shit sandwich on his plate with the NHL lockout, but I'm wondering, as others are, if he might take time away from his CBA duties to play a hand in stalled talks between the Edmonton Oilers and city council over a new downtown arena.

It's nice to see Gary Bettman and Donald Fehr finally put an end to all the dick measuring that's gone on during the NHL lockout by way of today's news the NHLPA finally has a new proposal to contemplate.

The reality of the NHL lockout will begin to hit home in the most fundamental way for players Monday when the first pay day of the 2012-13 season comes and goes without that familiar salary statement being handed out in dressing rooms around the league.
