Justin Schultz is only 24 years old and has just 148 games on his NHL resume, so it can be argued by those leaning heavily on hope and faith, like, say, Edmonton Oilers’ GM Craig MacTavish, it’s a little bit early to state with absolute certainty Schultz will never develop into an elite defenseman.

There’s been lots of ranting and raving, justifiably so, about the state of the Edmonton Oilers. Trade the players. Fire the coach. Fire everybody. A losing streak that reached 11 games (0-7-4) in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets Wednesday will do that to fans. I get it.

It’s bad enough fans of the Edmonton Oilers have been subjected to yet another season of futility and frustration by the team they choose to cheer for. It’s worse still that the people charged with running the franchise (into the ground) continue to make mind-boggling comments and decisions.

David Chilton, he of Wealthy Barber and Dragon’s Den fame, knows a bad deal when he sees one. Buying tickets to watch the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place, where Daryl Katz’s team has won just 60 of 157 games since the start of the 2010-11 season, unquestionably qualifies as that.
