The 2009 NHL draft is almost upon us and on Friday some teams will make a selection that solidifies their organization; others will make choices that keep them spinning their wheels, while some will outright strike out.

In today’s game if you don’t draft well you have no chance of competing. Of course astute trades and free-agent signings are keys to success as well, but the foundation of every championship team is built through their draft.

The anticipation across the NHL and specifically for the fans will increase daily as we are now within ten days of the 2009 NHL entry draft. The scuttlebutt has the Islanders prepared to take Victor Hedman instead of John Tavares, but it’s not a slam dunk.

Pas • sion | noun : Strong barely controllable emotion. Strong enthusiasm.

More than anything passion drives every facet of sport. The players need it to be champions, management requires it to continue on after a bad personnel decision, and the media better have it if they want to stay in the game. But fans possess it the most.
