The Edmonton Oilers are tied for first place in the Pacific Division. Connor McDavid leads the NHL in scoring with 34 points in 27 games, and he has a five-point lead on Nikita Kucherov.
There are many reasons for Oilers fans to be excited, especially after years of futility. However, Rogers Place might be the quietest rink in the NHL. Some have looked to give it a nickname and through 13 home games the most accurate one might be 'The Library'.
Why is it so quiet?

In our third installment of a new semi-regular feature on my radio show called Who Are You I caught up with Oscar Klefbom.
There was an "interview bomb" appearance from Adam Larsson, Klefbom discussing his infamous photo and many other non-hockey topics.

We love HOME games; have Liquor Depot delivery in under an hour. Click, pick, sit back and watch the game.
The Oilers toughest opponent lately has been themselves. In their last three losses they controlled much of the play, rarely had extended defensive zone time, yet they lost all three games.
They out shot the opposition 106-87.
They had 214 shot attempts while only allowing 154.
The problem was, they made glaring defensive errors which led to goals, and didn't make enough wise shooting decisions in the offensive zone.
They need to play smarter tonight in Winnipeg.

The Oilers aren't playing bad hockey overall, however, they are making major mistakes that lead to goals. Last night the Maple Leafs rarely had any contained pressure. The Oilers didn't spend much time in their own end, but they gift wrapped the Leafs' two goals, and both mistakes occurred below their goal line.
The focus and attention to detail has to be better. There are no excuses. This group has to play smarter and be consistently more determined.

In today's NHL it is rare to see any significant animosity or hatred carry over from game-to-game. We don't see line brawls, massive cheap shots or much extra curricular stuff during the games. Anything dirty would be caught on video, or if a player cheap shots someone and his teammate retaliates, usually the aggressor is suspended.
It is a different era of hockey. However, tonight's game against the Leafs carries a little extra motivation for the Oilers.
