When Edmonton Oiler fans talk about adding "grit" or "crust" these days, it's almost exclusively in regard to the skill lines. The club has all kinds of role players who can crash and bang but as the JF Jacques experiment a year ago showed us, "hands" are a vital part of the package. It's early, but it looks like the Oilers may have uncovered a gem deep in the heart of Stu (Magnificent Bastard) MacGregor's first draft as scouting director.

This is EJ McGuire during his time as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Flyers. McGuire passed away today, leaving a void in the hockey world's draft process. His "draft profiles" were a handy item for fans and media alike, and for those who follow the NHL's draft process year round McGuire was the point man on each winter's best young talents.

Entering this season, Devan Dubnyk's career progression could best be described as glacial. As the big man exits the 10-11 regular season it looks like the number one job in Edmonton is his to lose. And there's very little competition in sight.
