Playing defense in the National Hockey League is no easy assignment. Especially in today's NHL, where clutching and grabbing are penalties, the pace is breathtaking and the decisions rapid fire. The dangers are also enormous, that fact hitting home for Oiler fans during the pre-season. Former Oiler Sean Brown will talk to us today on Nation Radio about the Taylor Fedun play, the rigors of the NHL game and his experiences at the highest level of hockey.

Kevin Lowe has been a major part of the Edmonton Oilers organization for most of the last 32 years. Since being drafted in 1979, Lowe has been player, coach, GM and currently president of Hockey Ops. Last night--via twitter--speculation about Lowe's future kicked into overdrive. Talent can be found in the most unusual places. Sports history gives us many examples of teams adding talent at little cost. Green Bay's Packers of the 1960s, the Whitey Herzog Cardinals baseball team 82+ and hockey's NY Islanders from 1974-83 are all great examples of finding talent buried in other organizations or the deep minors.

A young man's playing career is in jeopardy, the injuries keep piling up and the Edmonton Oilers aren't even at the starting gate. Is the story of the season being written before launch?
