A year ago, I picked the Edmonton Oilers to finish 4th in the NW, 11th in the conference. They finished last in the NW, last in the conference and last in the league. Their minor league team was horrible, their veterans made headlines for failures, injuries, running their mouths and worse. They were frightful. They were major league in name only a season ago. Where do they go from here?

This is Bob Nystrom. A strong, violent winger in the Western League, he didn't have NHL speed but the Islanders took him anyway. After a cup of coffee at the end of his rookie pro season, Nystrom found himself taking an unusual step on his journey to the National Hockey League.

A good way to track prospects progress is to take note of their arrows. Good arrows, bad arrows, they all count. Jani Rita's WJ goal, his first season in the AHL--those are good arrows. Any comment made by Craig MacTavish about Jani Rita? Down arrow. It's been years--over a decade--since the Edmonton Oilers had so many up arrows. It is a little overhwelming.

When we last left the Liam Reddox story, Edmonton's favorite ginger was newly signed to a two-way deal and well down the depth chart. 44 days later, he's moving on up to the east side. Is there a deluxe apartment in the sky in his future?.

Tonight Devan Dubnyk (probably--he's listed as one of the two G's for tonight, one imagines he'll get some time in goal) gets the first opportunity of pre-season to show Edmonton's management and coaching staff that he is the better man to back up Super Bowl Sunday this winter. IS he the better man? COULD the Oilers go with 3 G's (again)?
