It's like Christmas, your birthday and April Fool's Day all wrapped up in one!
This year, you can give the gift of time.
And I don't mean a lousy wristwatch. I mean, they can't even be bothered to put a full day on a watch. Twelve hours, sheesh.
No, instead of a measly twelve hours, you can give out twelve months! That's like giving someone 365 watches. How generous is that?!!

Wow. There really is no middle ground in the Northwest Division, is there?
Whether it's in the standings, with the Canucks pretty much feasting on the talent starved rest of the division, or in the front offices, where you could never accuse any of the GMs of being underfed, but sometimes it sure seems like they've starved their brains of oxygen.
That's right: it's feast or famine in the Northwest. (Yeah, I went there. Deal with it.)
This last week was no exception...

The good news is the Canucks have had a 2-0 lead in five of their first eight games, and a one goal lead in two others. The bad news is they've given away 8 points to conference opponents in those games.
That being said, the Canucks are off to the best start in years. And so is Luongo. As I said last time, try and remember that the calendar is meaningless. Forget that it's January and just pretend that it's October.
The Canucks' start feels way better now, doesn't it?
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting there is nothing to worry about in Canucksville. In fact, there are always plenty of concerns. The last time I completely gave on my pessimism, they were up 2-0 in the Stanley Cup Final. And we know how that turned out...

The momentum is growing. Every day the calls to decertify or otherwise disband the NHLPA are growing. And I don't mean from NHL players.
No, hockey fans and media alike are now so fed up with what passes for collective bargaining in the NHL that they want to blow up the entire system. We're not talking just decertifying for the purposes of forcing the NHL to actually make a deal under threat of anti-trust lawsuits, i.e. what the NHL is alleging and what the NHLPA surely intends to do.
No, there are now calls to permanently abolish the NHLPA and in so doing completely free up all restrictions to player movement, including the NHL draft.
Personally, I'm not so sure this is a great idea...

It took a long time, but it looks like we're now at the final table in this high stakes game of poker that is the NHL CBA negotations.
And yes, this this is and always has been a heads up game. Neither you, nor I, nor any of the
tens of thousands tens of hundreds tens out there that organized or took part in sit-ins, petitions or protests have a seat at this table, despite the fact that both sides are playing with our money.
Although, is this really any different that the real world? I mean, this pretty much describes our government institutions, and even more so the professional gamblers on the investment banking circuit that nearly blew up the house of cards that is our global financial system.
But I digress. Let's have a look at where we are heading into this final round...
