This is a shot of the Bell Centre, the new "shrine" of hockey, where 24 Stanley Cup banners and seventeen retired jerseys hang in the rafters (18 if you count Gretzky) as a reminder of their past glory and domination. The Montreal Forum was the cathedral of hockey.

This here guy is Lester Patrick, jauntily referred to as "the Silver Fox" during the 1920s. One night in the 1928 Stanley Cup finals, Patrick was forced to suit up to replace his injured starting goaltender. This was particular note because not only was Patrick a Defenseman, he was also the Coach and GM of the Rangers at the time.

The Oilers win 4-1. That is all.

40 years ago, the GAG (Goal-a-game) line took the NHL by storm and dominated for several years. The line's makeup was traditional: a smooth, playmaking center (Ratelle), a marksman (Gilbert) and a big man to do the corner work (Hadfield) and drop the gloves when needed. There's more than one way to put a line together, but the key element is that certain chemistry or 6th sense required to maintain possession of the puck long enough to find an open man in scoring position. The Edmonton Oilers have been working on chemistry all season, and it looks like they may have found something. Times three.

The Oilers wrap up their November schedule with a date in Canada's capital city. The Oilers are 3-8-2 in November and have been outscored 55-27 so far this month. The Oilers haven't won in Ottawa since March 14th, 2002 when Anson Carter, Mike Comrie, Rem "The Gem" Murray and Brian Swanson scored in a 4-1 victory. Since then the Oilers have went 0-2-1-2, and they will try to kickstart their three-game swing through Eastern Canada with a win over the 10th place Senators.
