The 2009 NHL draft is almost upon us and on Friday some teams will make a selection that solidifies their organization; others will make choices that keep them spinning their wheels, while some will outright strike out.
In today’s game if you don’t draft well you have no chance of competing. Of course astute trades and free-agent signings are keys to success as well, but the foundation of every championship team is built through their draft.

We're still taking donations! We've achieved our goals for sending Jason Gregor to the 2009 NHL Entry Draft to cover all the goings-on for the OilersNation. But we still want to raise as much money as possible for the Stollery Childerns Hospital Foundation! Donate today!I spent most of my life watching ITV News here in good old E-town. I remember the weather with Bill Matheson and sports with Darren Dutchyshen. Lately, of course, I catch the six o'clock news with Lynda Steele and Gord Steinke.

You don't want guesses from rank amateurs. Mock drafts? Pfft. You want THE LIST. You want to know what name will be on the tip of the tongue of Oilers GM Steve Tambellini when he steps to the podium in Montreal Friday with the 10th pick at the NHL Entry Draft.

It was a fairly good day for news coverage of the Oilers, with plenty of relevant coverage in the Edmonton Journal and Edmonton Sun on the upcoming draft, some thoughts about pending UFA's, and of course Dany Heatley.

I’ve now run the math (percentage of total team offense) against NHL scouts over the course of three drafts. The math isn’t perfect, but it clearly beat the NHL scouts two times out of three and tied them in the third instance; something which is clearly ridiculous.
