John Candy played Barf in the 1987 sci-fi parody, Spaceballs. It was a strange parody on Star Trek, Aliens and the Star Wars trilogy. It didn't do very well at the box office, but became somewhat of a cult classic afterwards. Barf and his captain Lone Starr ended up saving the day of course, but while this was a unique character for Candy it was the prelude to Candy's best characters: Del Griffith in Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Chet Ripley in The Great Outdoors and Buck Russell in Uncle Buck. What does Barf have to do with the Oilers, you ask? Stick with me.

Magnus Paajarvi is basking in the warmth of Arizona with the rest of the Edmonton Oilers, but the big Swede's hands might as well be back here, where the deep freeze has busloads of brass monkeys heading south as fast as they can get out of town.

Sweet sassy mo-lassy. That right there is what you call a win.

Despite their best performance in a week, the Oilers couldn't hold on to a 3-0 lead and lost to Phoenix on Friday. Tonight they face a Ducks team that has lost four in a row, two in OT, so one losing streak will come to an end. The Ducks won all four meetings last season and outscored the Oilers 20-9.

I shudder to think what the Edmonton Oilers defence would look like without Ryan Whitney. Then again, the Anaheim Ducks would have an uglier back end than Terry Jones trundling up the press box stairs without Lubomir Visnovsky.
