Since they left the ice after G7 SCF '06 the Edmonton Oilers have traded, bought out and walked away from many, many actual NHL players. The idea--certainly since 2010 spring--was to go "scorched earth" and to have a quality cluster who could grow together. With that in mind, it would be quite surprising if the Oilers dealt Sam Gagner for a draft pick.

The last few days have seen an explosion of trade rumours (as well as some actual moves) and the expectation is that the Edmonton Oilers will be very busy over the next two weeks. Once again, they enter the NHL Entry Draft with a first overall pick, and once again the next two weeks project as critical in the long-term future of the franchise.
On thing that Steve Tambellini and the rest of the Oilers’ brain-trust should keep in mind throughout this period is the Oilers’ window to win.

It seems like a long time ago that I was drafted. The process is the same but the attention the draft gets has multiplied many times. Players know right away they have been selected. Between the Internet and Twitter, all news of who is drafted where is reported in real time.
Not so when I was drafted in 1994...(insert your age chirp here Wanye!!!)

There's not much doubt that Filip Forsberg is going to be an NHL player, and a pretty good one in the estimation of many. The question is, does the big Swede fit into the plans of the Edmonton Oilers, given they already have decent depth on the wing? I don't think so, but I don't know so.
