Stu MacGregor generally gets a lot of credit for his work since taking over as the point-man for the Edmonton Oilers at the NHL Entry Draft. I thought it might be interesting to revisit his selections and compare them to the players selected in the same range of picks, to evaluate how his group has done versus other NHL scouting groups.
We start with the 2008 Draft.

Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin went first and second in the 2010 draft, and they will always be linked together because of it. Tonight the two T's will square off for the first time, but right now they are on completely different development curves.
Hall is playing 18 minutes a night on the 30th place team, while Seguin is getting 12 minutes a night with the division-leading Boston Bruins. Hall is the more dominant player right now, and while he doesn't see it as a rivalry, he admitted it will be fun to line up against Seguin tonight.

This is a big trade deadline for Steve Tambellini and the Edmonton Oilers. The biggest prize available is within their grasp, and in this case "it's an honor just to be nominated" isn't good enough.

Over 24 games played this season, Devan Dubnyk has posted a 0.910 save percentage and that has driven an 8-8-7 record on a woeful Oilers team. That performance has given him a leg up on basically every other goaltender in the system, as his competition (Khabibulin, Deslauriers) have struggled since the opening puck drop of 2010-11.
Is it a mirage?

I'm not sure if it's blind loyalty, stupidity or simply a lack of options, but fans of the Edmonton Oilers obviously aren't easily discouraged as they continue to buy the failure their hockey team is selling them.
