Last week I was talking to a friend of mine from the States and he asked me a question about fighting in the NHL. He wanted to know if the fights were ever staged or planned to add excitement to "the Big Show". I was offended that he would even think that was possible.

Hurricanes GM Jim Rutherford,
@HurricanesGM sent out this tweet yesterday around 7 p.m. EST., " It looks like we are going to be able to get Jeff Skinner tied up for a number of years. Exciting news for our franchise."
Then a few hours later Bob McKenzie tweeted, "Jeff Skinner's extension with CAR expected to be 6 years with an AAV of $5.725M."
The Hurricanes have been very aggressive this summer trading for Jordan Staal, signing Alex Semin, albeit only for one year, and now Jeff Skinner. It's nice to see them go after and lock up some offensive stars, but more importantly for Oiler fans Skinner's contract will have to be looked at as a comparable for Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle's new deals.

With the news of Jeff Skinner’s contract extension (covered nicely here by Robin Brownlee), the focus of Oilers Nation has turned toward offering contract extensions to Jordan Eberle and Taylor Hall. Should the team extend both of those players this summer, or wait a little longer before getting serious about the possibility?
My vote: there’s no harm in a little patience.

If Jeff Skinner is worth $34.35 million to the Carolina Hurricanes two years into his NHL entry level contract, what are Taylor Hall and Jordan Eberle worth to the Edmonton Oilers?

When we last left the 4line discussion, we'd identified the suspects and wondered how the team could get improved play from the same group. Perhaps an addition from the farm? Or a change in philosophy?
