Lots of chatter online last night about the Barons and their 2-1 loss in Cleveland. I think logic and good sense tell us this version of the OKC Barons are going to set towns like Cleveland on fire this winter--but there is a certain amount of patience required for Oilers Nation.

The lockout is bad news for all sorts of reasons, but I can’t help but see it as especially bad for the depth defenders on the Edmonton Oilers. For Theo Peckham, Andy Sutton and Corey Potter, a missed season could be a career killer – or at least, an Oilers’ career killer.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Jordan Eberle may yet light up the American Hockey League, but it didn’t happen for them in their first game of the season. Instead, both were held off the score-sheet despite a seemingly limitless run of power plays, and the Oklahoma City Barons dropped their opening game.

The Oilers AHL affiliate, OKC Barons, start their season tonight against the Colorado Avalanche's affiliate, Lake Erie Monsters.
As the lockout drags on I'm certain many of you will check out the odd AHL game on the web, go on a road trip (four seats left) or just follow them here at the Nation. Between Lowetide, Willis, Brownlee and myself we will give you regular updates on the happenings in OKC.
