With the win highlighted above, the Carolina hurricanes have moved out of 30th in the NHL, passing the hapless Edmonton Oilers, whose recent and not-so-recent stretches of futility have plummeted them to the bottom of the National Hockey League.

Coming off their best effort in a month, the Oilers will try for their first win in 2010 tonight when the face the Dallas Stars. The Oilers are the only team in the NHL without a win in 2010.

Much of the talk this past week in the hockey world revolved around another ridiculously stupid play in junior hockey. Patrice Cormier elbowed Mikael Tam with a disgustingly cheap elbow in overtime that left Tam convulsing on the ice. It wasn’t pretty, and Cormier will learn his fate this Monday.
