Well, that 7-1 backside buffing from the Carolina Hurricanes tonight was about as many laughs as having Joni Pitkanen sneer, fart in your general direction and then stub out a cigar in your eye, now wasn't it?

I took the time to sit down with the notepad for tonight’s game against the Hurricanes, so despite the fact it was a 7-1 loss we’ll revisit it. It wasn’t all bad; in fact it was one of the least excruciating blowouts I’ve watched over the last few seasons*. More after the jump.

While the Oilers have been getting by alright in the offence department, averaging 2.83 goals per game (13th in the NHL), their first unit power play has been all but invisible over the season’s opening stanza.

Throughout the Taylor v. Tyler debate last year, there wasn't much mention of Jeff Skinner, but as we got closer to the 2010 draft we started to hear more about the offensive upside of the former Kitchener Ranger. The Hurricanes took him with the 7th pick and so far he has looked like an exceptional choice. Tonight we will see four of the top-eight rookie scorers in the NHL, and Skinner leads them all with five goals and 12 points.
