Edmonton Oilers owner Daryl Katz doesn't give a crap about what people think about him. He's a billionaire. A BILLIONAIRE. I laughed out loud when I read a comment to that effect on Twitter last night. Alas, it's true.

If you're anyting like Detroit Red Wings' Senior VP of Barnyard Operations, Jim Devellano, it's sometimes hard to tell elite hockey players apart from the rest of the herd. But never fear, the handy chart above should help you out if you ever get into a pinch.
Now, far be it from me to judge a Lester Patrick Trophy winner like Jimmy Devellano, but the cattle comment was a bit over the top. If there's anything I've learned over the years, it's that you don't poke the bear. You lure it with some bait, and then shoot it while it's not looking.
Wait. No. Not only is that the wrong analogy, it's the wrong animal.
We're talking barnyard animals today, especially those that make up the NHL's pecking order...

Eight years ago, during the first NHL lockout (how pathetic is it that there is a 1st and 2nd lockout, ugh) poker was on every sports channel. At first fans complained about it, but within month many started watching and playing online. Poker was the new "sport" of choice, but even the most uneducated poker fan realized quickly that you folded 2-7 offsuit, unless you were the big blind and could check to see the flop.
Right now the Katz Group and the City are playing heads up, and the Katz Group lost a big hand yesterday. Their appearance in Seattle followed by a head-scratching press release was akin to going all in with a 2-7 offsuit.

The last 24 hours have been interesting times for the city of Edmonton. Fans found out a good portion of the ownership group and their icon collection were apparently shopping for a new city.

What a weekend: Coaches grabbing referees, executives comparing players to cattle, ill-advised tweets and Strudwick's first medal since 1995.
