With few exceptions (Oilers examples include Ales Hemsky, Sam Gagner, Andrew Cogliano) most future NHL forwards need to refine their game in the minors before they can make the jump to the world’s best league. Their performance in the AHL gives us an idea of their potential as NHL’ers.

With the recent FMNFing and the new armada of Coaching staff sailing into the Bay of OilersNation, there is bound to be a ton of changes in the approach to the game of hockey, the personnel involved on the ice and the overall attitude at RX1.

There is a lot going on right now. The coaching carousel in the NW division is picking up speed, the rumour mill will be spitting out suggestions hourly leading into the draft and the LA Kings are going to be a player this summer.

Late in the 2007 draft, the Edmonton Oilers invested their final three picks on some rather unheralded Euros - smallish forward Linus Omark, Slovakian junior Milan Kytnar, and big Swedish forward William Quist. Omark has developed very nicely since draft day, and after a big-time season in the Elitserien he’s signed a contract with the KHL after being unable to come to terms with the Oilers. Quist has been a trainwreck; refusing advice from the Oilers to the point where he really isn’t on the map anymore, and if I’m reading the CBA right will re-enter the draft when the Oilers don’t sign him this summer.

The Edmonton Journal is reporting today that Denis Grebeshkov is likely to return to the Oilers and is close to signing a three-year deal worth a shade over 3-million dollars a season.
