Given the dearth of Edmonton Oilers news at this point in the summer, this seems as good a time as any to look at a group that gets ignored a lot: AHL players with new contracts coming up.

The Edmonton Rush, at least one Edmonton team that has seen the playoffs this season, unfortunately didn't make it to the final round. They fell to the Washington Stealth in the semifinal by a single point in overtime, with a score of 12-11.
Earlier this season, OilersNation commenter, gaddabout, and resident drunk, creepy uncle Ender the Dragon attended a Rush game... I don't want to give anything away but... there was the lacrosse equivalent of ice girls there. READ HIS TALE.

I should know better than to think I can sit on something for even a couple of days as long as Jim Matheson totes a notepad in this town. I got yet another example of why as Matheson offered up a brief but noteworthy item on Ales Hemsky in today's Hockey World in The Journal.

Teemu Hartikainen, pictured above, is one of the Oilers’ more interesting prospects. Drafted in the sixth round of 2008, Hartikainen must be signed by June 1 or else the Oilers will lose his rights and he’ll re-enter the draft.
