Once upon a time, a long long time ago, The Hockey News issued its annual predictions for the 2009-10 NHL season. If you had asked us back then what the outcome would be against the Avalanche – slotted in at 14th in the West – we would have laughed heartily, then looked you dead in the eye and said “it’s a win. Book it.” Then we would have slapped you in the face for asking such stupid questions and afterwards taken your sister out for a steak dinner.

Update: Fixed. Question: Does it matter? Sigh... If we were hanging out together right now and talking about the Oilers Game this afternoon against the Sharks, we would probably sit back and agree that the game reminds us both of the All Ireland semi final boxing match back in 2009. “The one where Munster fought Leinster?” you would ask, “yes, the very same, the 75 kg class if we recall correctly” ” we would reply. Then we would laugh and laugh, for we would have also ingested a good amount of peyote prior to having the conversation. But that’s just how we roll when we get together isn’t it?

I'm one of many people who has called for Edmonton Oilers GM Steve Tambellini to send a clear message to fans he has a plan in place to rebuild the franchise, but I'm not sure he needs a news conference to do it.

Ever see that episode of the Twilight Zone when the guy returns to town from a long trip and finds that everyone has disappeared? He wanders around for ages, everything exactly as it should be on the surface, food burning on the stove, phones working, church bells ringing by an unseen hand...
