Staying celibate for 40 days would be easy compared to asking the Nation not to debate the merits of Sam Gagner for the next 40 days. Seriously, I could write one sentence on what I think of Gagner and two paragraphs on a why Katrina Law, who played Mira in Spartacus: Blood and Sand, is a natural beauty, and the Nation would erupt in a heated debate over Gagner. That's life in the Nation, and it is great, and thankfully there's only 40 days left until the rookie tournament in Penticton.

Until we find a way to sell advertising on it of course.

Every so often, an analyst will talk about how a certain player deserved a "three star" nominee because he won two or three big faceoffs. Even more so often a coach will send out two centremen in a high-leverage situation to win a key, late draw. The question is whether this tactic has a tangible value.

Every once in a long while everything comes together and magic happens. Law & Order, The Simpsons, the Rolling Stones, Jill Hennessey's parents. Once in a long while chemistry, the Gods and Darwin get it just right.

Craig MacTavish and Rob Schremp have spent much of this summer on the outside looking in. One of them appears to have landed gainful employment. The other is still job hunting. For both men, the last several years have been a series of highs and lows.
