We’re be trotting out a new weekly feature starting today. It will focus mostly on the NHL, but if there’s a sporting story big enough to be mentioned in the same breath as hockey, we might consider it.

Slava Trukhno (whose first name is variously spelled Viacheslav, Vyacheslav or Viatcheslav) was a fourth round pick of the Oilers in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Trukhno had come over to North America for the 2004-05 season, finishing second in scoring on the QMJHL’s PEI Rocket with a modest 59 points.

By now, we’ve likely all heard about the suspension to Canadiens forward Tomas Plekanec for slewfooting Denis Grebeshkov on Wednesday night. As Jason Gregor reported yesterday, Grebeshkov is going to be out for a minimum of two weeks, and likely longer with a high ankle sprain. Plekanec will be ineligible to play for two games, in accordance with the Colin Campbell Wheel of Justice.

I have always marveled at minor league baseball and the unique, zany, outlandish and absolute genius game promotions they dream up. And I want you guys to dream up some zany promotions as well, but we'll get to that further down the post.
