You can tell that the new NHL season approacheth at full speed. The days are getting colder and wives of hockey fans everywhere are starting to eye the calendar nervously knowing that their attentive summer husband is about to be replaced with a distracted fall model who is glued to the TV and computer and regularly mistakes his children for one another.

At the risk of being called a pansy, does it make any sense to have Colten Teubert watching the first day of Edmonton Oilers 2011 training camp at Rexall Place today instead of participating in it because of a meaningless fight in rookie tournament in Penticton?

Ryan Whitney skated for 40 minutes this morning, but he didn't return for the 2nd session with group A. Whitney gave us an update on how he felt, and when Oiler fans can expect to see him play.

After telling us he wouldn`t be involved in any contact drills for at least a week, maybe two, Hemsky was on the ice this morning as expected, but he didn`t sit out any of the one-on-one drills or brief scrimmage. I caught up with him for an explanation.

The Oilers were on the ice bright and early this morning with Group A taking the first tour of Rexall at 8:15 a.m. There will be no scrimmages today based on the first session. (I will update every few minutes, so check back for updates.)
