Along with the major questions on the back end, the Edmonton Oilers do have some concerns in net. Nikolai Khabibulin has one year left on his contract, but his age and general performance since joining the Oilers make it clear that he won’t be the starter on a contending Edmonton team. Devan Dubnyk has youth and has shown flashes, but not everyone is confident in his ability to be a starter for a contending team, period.

Should the Oilers be worried about their goaltending?

There might be a perfectly good reason why GM Steve Tambellini trades Sam Gagner one day, but size shouldn't be it. Just a thought and a simple rule of thumb for armchair GMs who insist size is an issue with Gagner, or any player for that matter – find a way to keep your best players and move out the rest, regardless of how tall they are or aren't.

It is easy to identify baseball scouts in spring training. Look for the old guys with the sun dried grille and (sometimes) a Juggs gun. Hockey scouts are less obvious, certainly not readily available to the public and most certainly difficult to grade. How does a pro scout build a resume?

The Detroit Red Wings have won 17 straight at home. Only three other teams, St. Louis, Chicago and Washington have won more than 17 home games all year. The Wings are on fire at Joe Louis Arena, and they haven't lost at home since the Flames beat them 4-1 on November 3rd. Imagine going to Rexall for three months straight and never seeing your team lose, hell, you'd take three weeks without a loss.

The Wings have the longest home winning streak since the Flyers won 20 in a row at home from Jan 4th to April 3rd, 1976. Detroit plays the Oilers tonight, the Ducks on Friday and then the Flyers on Sunday. They could tie the record against the organization that holds the record, so you know the Wings will be fired up to play tonight.
