The Edmonton Oilers are building some reasonable depth on defense in terms of quantity, but it seems to me there's still room to add quality and that's why it seems likely GM Steve Tambellini will make another move to bolster his blue line this off-season.

Oiler fans haven't had much to celebrate since their joyous run in the spring of 2006, but on Saturday Justin Schultz gave them a reason to believe that the days of players shunning Edmonton or walking away might be a thing of the past.

'Twas the night before a frenzy and all through the league, every pundit was prepping for long weekend fatigue...
The big day turned out to be rather uneventful, with only a few notable names finding homes. That said, it was a good weekend for the Edmonton Oilers - they won the Schultz sweepstakes and retained the still very effective Ryan Smyth on an extremely reasonable deal. Those additions and others across the Nation were set-up and discussed yesterday by LT and a wide range of guests, including Terry Jones, Tom Lynn and Bruce McCurdy.

It’s a scene that fans of the Edmonton Oilers know all too well: a general manager shaking his head at the steadfast refusal of a player to either join or stay with his team. This time, however, instead of Kevin Lowe or Steve Tambellini flabbergasted by the departure of a Mike Comrie or the refusal of a Dany Heatley to accept a trade, it was Anaheim Ducks G.M. Bob Murray who was frustrated.

Back in the olden days, Edmonton was a different place. Sure, the streets still had potholes and the summers were hot/winters cold, but when it came to the hockey club good players came from everywhere and in endless ways.
