On an Oilers team with more than a few pleasant surprises, it is the play of Ryan Whitney that stands out more than anything else to me. The 27 year-old defenceman leads the Oilers in a variety of statistical measures, and I think that to date he’s easily been the most valuable player on the team.

History can teach us many things. Never get involved in a land war in Asia. Don't cheat on any woman, and get it in writing. Oilers history has a few cautionary tales for modern fans and one of the most important is the following: enjoy these kids as they emerge as NHL players. Some day, money and playing time and other "life" items will cloud the view.

What in the sweet holy hell is going on here today? Jordan Eberle scores two goals and the Oilers smoke the Blue Jackets and not a single writer at the Nation thinks it merits an article? How many people write here again?

Fine. You want something done right you have to do it yourself we suppose. We don't really have anything to say but that has never stopped us before. Here goes.

Dancing Queen, Fernando, Money, Money, Money and Knowing Me, Knowing You all became #1 hits.  Anni-Frid "Frida" Lynqstad, Bjorn Ulvaeus, Benny Anderson and Agnetha Faltskog had incredible chemistry, and tonight Tom Renney will play Magnus Paajarvi and Linus Omark together for the first time in their hockey lives hoping they form some sort of Swedish magic.

Nikolai Khabibulin, MVP

With four strong performances in five December outings, and no true stinkers so far this month, the ‘Nikolai Khabibulin as MVP’ brigade is back out on the Oilers official website. An article from Oilers digital media assistant Ryan Dittrick currently graces the club’s front page, casually ascribing all of Khabibulin’s early season struggles to the penalty kill, and pointing to his recent (and quite impressive) performance as something that “has helped to shine light on the stellar play of the team’s number one goaltender; praise that’s not only deserving, but well overdue.”
