Today, CBC hockey analyst Mike Milbury was charged with assault in relation to an incident that occurred with an opposing player as he helped coach his son’s pee wee hockey team.
How serious the incident was is not entirely clear; but from the reports today it sounds like it’s fairly unexceptional hockey parent behaviour. That may change depending on what exactly Milbury said – the reports also indicate he was charged with uttering threats, after all – but everyone who has spent any amount of time around the game has seen, heard or at the very least read about the line-crossing actions of hyper-competitive hockey moms and dads.
The actions alone weren’t the reason the internet quickly filled with Mike Milbury jokes this morning.

Last night’s loss to the Phoenix Coyotes feels like a turning point, somehow. Flush with the successes of October, fans largely forgave the Oilers a disappointing six-game road-trip. Alternating wins and losses over a two game home stand and a four-game road trip was accepted, because with five games at home coming up on the schedule the Oilers could make up some ground.
They didn’t. Instead, the Oilers dropped four of five, most of them to teams well below them in the standings. That stretch was followed by an ugly loss to Calgary, and then last night’s embarrassment at the hands of the Phoenix Coyotes – a team the Oilers should have had an advantage on, given their five-day break and the fact the Coyotes had lost to a miserable Anaheim club the night before.
Now, over the team’s last 19 games, they’ve gone a miserable 6-12-1.

Last night's loss was the tipping point for many loyal Oiler fans. After four days off, the Oilers flat out didn't compete in Phoenix.
What has to change so the Oilers don't find themselves in a race for another top-five pick?
